What's Happening this Month
ELAC (English Learner Advisory Committee), Wed. 1/15
Our ELAC committee is meeting on Wednesday, January 15 at 10:00 at the Conejo Creek Community Room. Our ELAC meeting is a great place for parents of our English Learners to express their concerns and ideas to the School Site Council (SSC). ELAC covers broad areas for ELs, such as how parents/guardians can help their children at home.
3rd Grade Field Trip to Camarillo Ranch Wed. 1/15 and Tues. 1/21
Our third graders will be taking a field trip to Camarillo Ranch to discover what life was like on a California rancho at the turn of the last century. Our third graders will go in two groups; Rooms 13 & 14 on Wednesday, January 15, and Rooms 17 & 18 on Tuesday, January 21.
Spelling Bee, Fri. 1/17
Our annual Banyan Spelling Bee for 4th and 5th graders will be on Friday, January 17 at 1:10 pm in the MPR.
Talent Show Paperwork & Music Due Tues 1/14 and Try-Outs, Fri. 1/17
Sing, dance, perform magic, tell jokes, entertain and more at our annual Talent Show on Friday, January 31 at 6:00 pm! Paperwork and music are due by Tuesday, January 14. Tryouts will be on Friday, January 17th at 2:45 pm in the MPR. Talent Show rehearsals are Wednesday, January 22 at 2:45 pm and Friday, January 24 at 2:45 pm in the Banyan MPR. The following week on Thursday, January 30 there will be a final dress rehearsal at the Newbury Park High School Performing Arts Center from 3:30 - 5:30 pm.
No School Martin Luther King Jr. Day Mon. 1/20
No school on Monday, January 20, 2020 for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Kindergarten Round Up
If your child will be a TK, K or new to CVUSD student beginning in the 2020-2021 school year, enrollment packets will be available online and at Banyan beginning January 21, 2020.
Abilities Awareness Week, Fri. 1/24 to Fri. 1/31
Abilities Awareness Week is a program that gives Banyan students a glimpse of what it would be like to have different abilities. During this is a very exciting and important “life lesson” week, students participate in hands-on activities and learn about what it is like to have different "abilities." The goal of this week is to help our students understand that we all have a variety of differences as well as similarities and have the need for respect, acceptance, inclusion, and friendship. Parents, grandparents and friends may attend our Opening and Closing ceremonies.
Progress Reports Home Today with Some Students on Fri. 1/31
On Friday, January 31 trimester 2 progress reports will go home with students who need them.
Banyan Talent Show Fri. 1/31
Everyone is welcome to attend the annual Banyan Talent Show on Friday, January 31 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Newbury Park High School Performing Arts Center, 456 N. Reino Road in Newbury Park. Admission is free.
