Mrs. Salemi's Classroom News!
February 2021
Enjoying all to come in 2021!
I have enjoyed seeing the enthusiasm and excitement from all of the students after a well-deserved winter break! Blended learning kicked off on January 19th and it has been going wonderful. What a treat it has been to finally see some of my students in-person and also see so many students eager to learn new things. This group of 4th graders are truly special and are an inspiration to me daily. :)
Thanks for your support,
Mrs. Salemi
Important Reminders-Blended Learning
Arrival/Dismissal
- Car drop off and pick up entrance is now on Harrison Street. Please do not enter from Dee Road.
- As you enter the drive, remember to pull your car all the way up to the marked cone. This creates more space for students to safely exit cars.
- Parents are expected to remain in cars and children must have their mask on when exiting the vehicle.
- If your child takes the bus every day and you decide to pick them up, you must let the office know in advance. (847.827.6231).
Attendance
- Please note that in-person students must report to school buildings each morning. In order to be marked present, students enrolled in the hybrid program must be physically in attendance at school every day. The only exception to this is when students have been approved for temporary remote learning.
- Remote students should be logged in for learning every day at 8:15 AM.
- Students may not shift between in-person and remote learning unless it has been formally approved by the school office.
Theme of the Month-Be KInd!
Looking for something to do to keep you and your family busy during the chilly month of February? Make kindness a family activity! Use this choice board for some inspiration of ways to spread kindness to those around you. We want to see how your family is spreading kindness! Please email any videos or pictures of your family spreading kindness to myself (ssalemi@emsd63.org) or Ms. Soike (asoike@emsd63.org) by February 19, 2021 to be featured in a special kindness video!
January Enrichment
Here is what we have been learning about last month!
Reading & Writing:
- Students have just started their next research project on the American Revolution! Students were placed in groups to help support one another on different sub-topics of the Revolutionary War. They have started looking through various informational texts, taking notes and organizing them. They will then be putting this information in a chapter book during writing.
Math:
- We are continuing to work on Module 5 which focuses on fractions. Students have been working on fraction equivalence, ordering and how to use the different operations with fractions and mixed numbers.
- Need help getting a better understanding of math? Check out my website or here for more support!
Science/Social Studies:
- We have been learning all about Illinois! Students finished off this geography unit with a virtual poster project-be sure to ask them about it, or have them show you their hard work!
SELS (Social Emotional Learning Standards):
- Our theme for the month of January was Be Determined. Students did a variety of activities that encouraged students to reflect on themselves and create any new goals (both academic and personal) they can achieve in this new year.
