Dear Mason Families,
-Kindness, Compassion and Love - We have truly missed our students and we can't wait to see them. It is going be extremely hard to shy away from their hugs and not being able to give them a high five (I am personally really struggling with this, high fives are my thing...) but please know we will do everything in our power to make sure they understand we care about them. Our staff has been working for weeks on greetings that respect our social distancing rules.
-Proactive safety measures - We have tried to think of everything possible to keep our students safe and you will see we are taking every precaution possible. Safety is our number one concern and we don't take that task lightly.
-Collaboration - All hands on deck. Everyone on the Mason team will be doing their best to support our learners. We will be working together to find the answers to any question/scenario that may arise. We have tried to think of every possible scenario but I am sure something will come up. Thank you in advance for your grace and patience.
-Partnership - We need each other. Our procedures/safety guidelines will only work if we work together and we have open lines of communication. We are open to feedback on how we can make our school better and together we can do great things.
-Positive Attitudes - Some of the changes we have had to endure this year were not created by our district and they are out of our control but please know our hearts are in the right place. We are doing everything possible to keep your child safe and making sure they are learning. As a community of learners we must remain positive and focused on safety and learning as our students feed off our attitudes.
-Teachers focused on the students in front of them - Teachers will be sending home sample schedules and resources for students to utilize on non face to face days. Please understand that responses from teachers will be delayed as they are doing their best to keep the students inside the school day safe. Feel free to do whatever you need to do to make the non live days work for your child and family.
Looking forward to seeing our Cohort A Young 5's-2nd Grade students tomorrow,
Dr. Bishop

Gardening at Mason
Shoutout to Ms. Nash and our wonderful community volunteers who refreshed our garden area by the Peace Pole in the front of the school. It looks absolutely amazing and I can't thank you enough for your time. Thanks for keeping our school looking amazing!
Sesame Street tackles Racism
Below is a great link to explore with your child if you are looking for questions, discussion prompts or activities to use with your child around the topics of empathy and race. Our children see and understand so much more than we think they do and we owe it to them to ensure they are well informed on how to show love to all people.
Indigenous Peoples Day is Oct. 12th
On Oct. 12th we celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day. The goal of this day is to critically think about our history and empower ourselves to learn, observe and reflect on the narratives that are shifting in our world. We must also move beyond recognition and continue to have fruitful conversations about how we can come together to create positive action and change for those who have been marginalized. Thank you for taking the time to explore some of the read aloud books in the link below and for continue the conversation at home. If you are interested in more materials to support these conversations at home, please reach out to the main office.
Here are a couple of items to consider when you are preparing to come back into the school environment in the next couple of weeks.
- A water bottle - students will not be able to use the water fountain for water
- 2 masks with your child's name on them
- Technology - Teachers will let you know if your child needs to bring their device to school daily
- School supplies - Label your child's supplies with their first and last name to keep track of their belongings. Students will keep their school supplies at school in their desk and community supplies will not be available. Please let the office know if your child needs certain school supplies.
- Baby wipes - Consider donating baby wipes to your child's classroom
- Tissue boxes - Consider donating boxes of tissue to your child's classroom
- Please label everything (clothing, backpacks, lunchboxes, snack bags, etc.) your child brings to school
- Students should not bring toys or recess items from home
If students bring hand sanitizer to school to keep in their desks it should have a cap that closes tightly and not have a strong scent.
Thank you so much for your time and support. We know this is a challenging time for all involved and we are dedicated to doing whatever it takes to make our learners' school experience safe and welcoming.
