Federal Meal waiver ending May 27th: Please Read Below
The federal waiver and funding that allowed us to provide free meals for all students is ending on the last day of school. After Friday, May 27, NKC Schools will no longer be able to offer free meals for all.
Beginning in June, students not participating in the free and reduced program will be required to begin paying for meals again. Students already approved for free and reduced meals for 2021-22 will be automatically approved for free meals in summer school and into the first 30 days of next school year, 2022-23. A new application must be completed each year. Those who have not yet applied are encouraged to do so.
If you believe that you might qualify for free or reduced meals, fill out an application online as soon as possible:
• Families should complete the 2021-2022 application for the upcoming summer school session. This application is available now here: https://frapps.horizonsolana.com/NORK01
• Families should also complete the 2022-2023 application for the upcoming school year that begins in the fall. This application will be available beginning July 1.
• More information and help for the application process is available here.
Through a program unrelated to the waivers, the following sites will serve free meals for all during June summer school only: Antioch, Briarcliff, Clardy, Crestview, Eastgate, Gashland, Gracemor, Lakewood, Maple Park, Meadowbrook, North Kansas City HS, Oak Park, Topping, West Englewood, Winnetonka and Winnwood.
Meal prices for all other June 2022 summer school sites are set at the following rates:
Lunch
Elementary: $2.80
Secondary: $3.05
Employees & Visitors: $3.95
Milk: $0.55
Breakfast
Elementary: $1.45
Secondary: $1.50
Employees & Visitors: $2.20
The free and reduced meals program offers many benefits beyond nutrition for participating families, including fee waivers, activity scholarships and school supplies. We encourage all families to take advantage of this option if eligible.

New Maplewood Logo
As we open our brand new facility, it was time to look towards new beginnings. With our new facility we have chosen a brand new Maplewood Logo that connects to our facility. Our main themes of the building and for the logo were nature and the history of the Maple Park neighborhood.
We will be slowly transitioning our school name to the Maplewood MapleLeafs! This name connects to the history of the neighborhood and the name that had been used many years ago at Maplewood and at Maple Park.
Specifics will come soon..but mark your calendars as the district will be hosting a grand opening celebration on October 8th! We are going to have a community celebration!!

Portrait of A Graduate
NKC Schools and our community of students, families, teachers, staff, leaders, business partners and the Board of Education are committed to developing in all students a set of key competencies that are transferable across time, space, and any situation to prepare for a future of success. During the Portrait design process, a team consisting of all stakeholder groups reviewed an inventory of skills, literacies, and mindsets. The seven chosen for NKC Schools' Portrait of a Graduate represent the key competencies for student success to graduation and beyond.
At Maplewood we plan to specifically teach the seven competencies to our students and incorporate it into our Positive Behavior Support System!
