ATTENTION WALKERS- AM ARRIVAL

As a reminder, adult supervision does not begin at Hillcrest until 8:50AM. To that point, we are requesting that walkers arrive closer to 9AM. This will allow walkers to enter the building upon arrival, rather than waiting outside the school when arriving before 8:50AM.

ATTENTION CARRIDERS-AM ARRIVAL

As a reminder, supervision does not begin until 8:50AM. To that point we are requesting that all students remain in their cars until you see the adult on duty exit the building at 8:50AM.

Please do not drop off students in front of the building when there is no adult supervision present. This is a major safety issue because there is a continuous movement of vehicles in front the building during this time. Even a few minutes early can be detrimental during this busy time.

Recess - Cold Weather

When there are cold conditions outside, please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for outside weather. Unless the weather is extreme (rain or excessive cold, 22 degrees or below), children will have recess outside.

Art Goes to School

Art Goes to School will be visiting Hillcrest next week. They will visit every art class during this week with a focus on art appreciation.

HELP WANTED- AGTS

We are welcoming new volunteers for the 2022/23 school year. If you love art and love children, AGTS might be right for you. No experience is necessary. We will provide information on our portfolio of prints, a volunteer handbook and help with preparing art appreciation lessons to present to elementary school children. You can access our reports on Google Docs to help you prepare. Once you have observed two or three experienced members, you will see that it’s not that hard to engage children in lively discussion of what they see and feel and think about art. Each volunteer teaches one or two classes per school, a commitment of about two hours a month. We will work with your “work from home” schedule, so you can step away from your desk to stop in at school for your presentations. In addition, Art Goes to School of the Delaware Valley provides two optional lectures each year for our continuing education at art sites in the region and two ZOOM lectures by art historians. Consider joining us as we work to welcome members who only have occasional weekday time but are eager to help in CR classrooms. For more information visit our web site www.artgoestoschool.org or call Mary Donaldson 267-884-2910 mdonaldson@artgoestoschool.org

MRS. GELLER-STEAM

Mrs. Geller has taken an unexpected leave of absence for the remainder of the school year. We are working diligently to find a suitable replacement for this absence. In the meantime, the classes will be covered by Mrs. McHale, our beloved building substitute. Please be assured, that Mrs. Geller has left comprehensive plans for Mrs. McHale to ensure minimal impact to student learning during this time.

KEY MOMENTS DERSERVE KUDOS!

This year Dr. Sanko has introduced the concept of KEYS in CRSD. He noted that these keys are critical in the success of our school district and no matter the role, everyone plays a KEY ROLE! To that point, I will be catching KEY WORTHY moments throughout the school year with students and staff. There will be a new addition to our weekly newsletters that will acknowledge someone and their KEY MOMENT that made a difference at HILLCREST!

Congratulations to Mrs. Kunzig. Mrs. Kunzig was "KEY" in operating our school office over the last 3 weeks while we were transitioning our new secretary. She went above and beyond to ensure that everything was in full operation in the office.

WELCOME KALI BRINK

As you know, Mrs. Murphy transferred to MMW earlier this month. I am pleased to announce our new secretary, Kali Brink. Kali lives in Richboro with her family. She's most excited about getting to know the students, families and HCE staff.

HUMAN GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT

As part of the yearly health curriculum fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students receive instruction on human growth and development during the second semester of the 2022-2023Vschool year. Classes will be taught by the Physical Education teacher and the school nurse. We understand that these can be difficult conversations to have with your students, but they are of great importance to our children’s health.

Additional resources for parents are provided in the attached letter under the grade level topics if you are looking to further these conversations at home.

CRSD CELL PHONE/SMART WATCH POLICY

During the holidays, students may have received SMART WATCHES or other electronic devices as presents. While these devices are awesome; please keep in mind that all Electronic Devices are against our District Policy. Even if text/phone usage is disabled on these devices, many still have the capability of taking photos & accessing the internet, etc. As a result, they are not permitted to be worn during the school day. All electronic devices should be turned off and remain in backpacks if they are brought to school.

Excerpt from CRSD/HCE Parent Handbook

The use of cell phones by students is prohibited during the school day or on the school bus (Section 1317.1 PA School Code). Students, who possess cell phones, must secure them in their backpacks/schoolbags throughout the school day, turned off, not silent or vibrate. This eliminates unnecessary interruptions to instruction.

Students may not use cell phones during lunch, recess or breaks. Cell phones are to remain off during the school day, including the school bus. In the event a student uses a cell phone (calling, texting, photographing or otherwise) or the phone rings, during the school day, the student will be asked to turn the cell phone off before releasing to staff. Following, the cell phone should be picked up by a parent/guardian/designated adult at their earliest convenience, in the main office during school hours. The Council Rock School District assumes no responsibility for cell phones or other electronic devices that are lost,

stolen or broken.
