November 2022
A message from Ms. Alexander, Principal
Next week is our 10th week of school. This school year is flying. A recent highlight was the Pennies for Pies coin drive. I challenged the students to collect 50lbs of coins to donate to Operation Wildcat. We even added a bonus by having Mrs. Bertsch, our counselor, agreeing to take a pie in the face. Well, I'm happy to announce that at our Community Meeting next week Mrs. Bertsch will be enjoying a pie. The students collected 59 lbs of coins! The bigger message around Pennies for Pies is how the students worked together as a team to tackle a challenge and the proceeds are going to serve others. Way to go Broad Street!

Happy November! I hope this letter finds you well. Our focus this month is the character trait Self-Control, doing what is right, even when you don’t feel like it. Students will be encouraged to think before they act , control his/her temper, respect others and their belongings, sit still and quiet, and build healthy habits. Classes will practice self-control on a variety of interactive activities where they will draw, role play, imagine, and play games.
These are some techniques to foster self-control at home:
· Provide a soothing area with visual reminders to calm down and have a brain break.
· Role play a plan for when their emotions get out of control.
· Give children reasonable choices whenever possible.
· Give kids opportunities to learn self-control through play.
