News from Sanborn School

A note from Mrs. Johansen
I hope you had a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving break! Thank you for your participation in Parent/Teacher Conferences. It's so important to connect, even virtually, as we foster our relationship and partnership for this year.
Sanborn in-person students and many virtual students completed the required Erin's Law presentations today in their virtual classrooms. Letters about this program went out yesterday and last week. Please refer to the district website for more information about the grade level presentations if you have any questions.
Please know that Sanborn is open for regular school hours for the next three weeks. Please call first if a Chromebook needs to be looked at or replaced. Also, please use this google form to submit requests for assistance.
The District Instructional Technology Department is sharing information with parents through their Parent University newsletters. The latest edition shares information on Brain Pop, Parent instructions on connecting to Zoom or Google Meets, and various Troubleshooting tips! Check it out!
Our Socio-Emotional Learning Coordinators shared this info-graphic with 7 Tips and Tricks for Treating Screen Fatique. I thought it had fantastic suggestions for teachers and parents, as we are all spending lots of time in front of a screen these days. With my own kids, I've encouraged them to take stretch breaks and get outside in between classes just to breathe some fresh air. Our dog Mulligan enjoys those breaks as well. Being a parent right now is not an easy task and you all are doing GREAT! Let us know how we can help, even if it's just to provide a listening ear!
We look forward to returning to in-person instruction on January 5th!
Have a wonderful week!
Fondly,
Erika Johansen

Health and Human Growth Update
Health and Human Growth is part of our D15 curriculum at all grade levels. We have had several questions in regard to providing instruction for our health curriculum during our unique 2020-21 school year. We understand that some of our schools provide this instruction in gender specific classrooms and that due to the advent of not being in our schools, this is not possible at this time. Additionally, conversations surrounding puberty and other sensitive topics are best done while in a traditional classroom or in smaller virtual meetings. However, we also know that because our students at home may not have privacy, this is not the best scenario for delivery of this content.
We have asked our teachers to provide lessons that relate to food, personal care and general wellness as part of the distance learning instruction. These will meet the guidelines for health during our distance learning. Topics that are “sensitive” will not be addressed during distance learning.
If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
