Western Valley Elementary ROAR
October 30, 2023
Thank you to all of our families who came out to our Fall Carnival on Friday! It was great to see so many families there having fun together. A huge shoutout to Mrs Reeser & Mrs Flores-Tapia for coordinating the efforts, to our PTO for all of your hard work to pull it all together, and to the volunteers for everything you did to help. We could not have done it all without you! Every year, we hope to make it a little bigger and better than the year before!
Last week we took our 2nd Benchmark Assessments. These tests are given 4 times a year, and test all of the standards our students should master by the end of their grade level. The first test was in August, the second is in October, the third is given in February, and the fourth test is given in May. We are just above the district average of 33%, with our K-5 students averaging 34% mastery of the Arizona State Standards they should know by the end of the school year. We continue to analyze the standards, plan meaningful lessons for students, and provide interventions to help students grow from wherever they are. Thank you for helping by making sure your kids are at school on time every day. If you can schedule medical appointments for the end of the day, or even better, on no school days, then our teachers can do their "teaching magic" to help our kids learn and grow!
Looking forward to another wonderful week with our kids!

Social Skills Focus
New spirit shirts are still available!
A reminder about school uniforms...
Students may wear a hoodie or jacket to school. District policy is for students to wear a solid, uniform colored sweatshirt or sweater (navy, white, or baby blue). If there is writing or a graphic, it must be appropriate for school. The link below has school-approved sweatshirts for only $13! As students hear daily on the morning announcements, hoods and hats may not be worn indoors. If their sweatshirt has a hood, please remind them that they must remove the hood while in class.
Arrival & Dismissal
Use your Dashboard card for a faster Parent Pick Up! Ask your teacher or the front office for one.
23-24 School lunch applications
Lunch pricing is $1.60 for students (and $2.85 for adults if you'd like to eat lunch with your child).
And don't forget to write their name on it!

Also, if your child has a Chronic Illness, and may miss school often due to an illness or condition, ask the office or Mrs Reyes about a Chronic Health Form.
