a closer look at our week
The Kindergarten Parks
The kids have been hard at work this week creating parks in their classrooms. It all began with a letter from the "mayor" asking them to create a new park for Bothell. They worked together in small groups to plan and build three-dimensional models of the parks. On Friday, Silver Park, Seahawks Park, and Fun Park each had a Grand Opening celebration, complete with speeches and ribbon cuttings. Next week, the students will have to deal with "problems" in the parks, such as graffiti and bullying.

Teddy Bear Math
At the end of the year, we do a problem-solving math unit with everybody's favorite bear...the teddy! This past week, students used story mats and mini bears to solve math problems at the Teddy Bear Store. kindergartners were challenged with how to stock the store using groups of five and ones. Next week, they will create their own picture problems for the store. And in the last week, students will bring a bear to school and build him/her a bed just the right size, putting measurement skills to use. Finally, we combine our end-of-the-year celebration with the unit and go on a Teddy Bear Picnic. If you haven't had a chance to check out the sign-up for the picnic, see below.
