Updates from the Principal

Greetings Firebird Nation Families -

It's Friday and the 3-day weekend is upon us! Remember that there is no school on Monday, February 15th, due to the President's Day Holiday. Please also remember that we adjusted our student cohort contact days next week to accommodate 2 days of In-Person Learning for each cohort. Please see the schedule below. Also, remember that we are moving away from our FLEX Fridays after next week. This information is included on the schedule as well.

The district has been having conversations about our return to 100% In-Person Learning. They continue to look at the county health data and feedback from students, staff, parents, and community. We are hoping to hear a decision soon as to when this date will be. County conditions continue to improve and stabilize. Once we know what this return to 100% date will be, then we will communicate with you. This could result in some small adjustments to our schedule below and we would keep you informed if this is the case. We will also be sending out one final enrollment survey for families to indicate their choice of In-Person or E-Learning for the remainder of the year. This information will be critical as it will help us to balance classes to promote social distancing once we have 100% of students in the building.

We have recently sent out two other bulletins with some important information. You should have received our CMAS Testing Information notice. Please review this information and determine if you would like for your student(s) to take the state assessment this year. Due to the pandemic, state testing is only offered by "Opting In" this year. If you wish for your student(s) to take the state assessments, please complete the form HERE.

Our other bulletin announced the exciting return of Firebird Athletics! We are still under restrictions from the county and through CHSSA, but we were given the green light to begin our own Intramural programs for the remainder of this year. This will allow us to conduct shorter seasons for each of our sports by following all of the CHSSA guidelines. We will be able to provide opportunities for our coaches to work with our student-athletes, teach fundamentals, and build competitive skills. Please review the information sent out so that you can sign up to participate. Space is limited due to county and CHSSA requirements; so sign up soon! Students must still maintain academic eligibility requirements and have a physical on file to participate. If you have additional questions, please contact my Athletic Director, Elena Forehand, at

Lastly, we are hoping to return to 100% In-Person soon. It is imperative that we continue to do our part to maintain our safe conditions around FMS. Masks are still required and MUST cover the nose and mouth at all times. Students choosing not to follow this expectation will be asked to return home for the day. This has been our district's expectation for our return to learn. Teachers will continue to schedule mask breaks throughout the day to help in this area. We will continue to stagger passing periods, ask students to walk on specific sides of the halls, and spread out within classrooms to encourage as much social distancing as possible. There are also opportunities for students to wash their hands during the day as well. Please remember, if your student is experiencing any COVID-like symptoms, that it is important for them to stay home so that we minimize any possible exposure and limit our quarantines as much as possible. Thank you for your support!

Thank you again for all of your support and encouragement for everyone at Firebird Nation! We appreciate working together with all of you during these difficult times.

I hope everyone has an awesome three day weekend!

Hi Families,

By now I’m sure you’ve heard that Falcon Middle School is heading to Greece summer of 2022. We are so excited for this amazing trip. The kids are going to experience a whole new world view, grow as individuals, and try new things.

We have exciting news, there are still 10 spots available on this trip. We are going to open this trip up one last time so that you can take advantage of enrollment incentives--$200 off-- that EF is currently offering. Like many of you, we are dying to get out of the house and start exploring again. So we hope that you’ll get excited and look to the future with us.

In order to learn more about the trip we will be hosting, virtually, an informational meeting February 22nd. Please visit this link to find out more details and register for the virtual meeting to learn more about this opportunity. First priority for enrollment will be given to families who register and attend the meeting.

Can’t wait to see you there!

Mrs. McNeil and Ms. Cook

Parents Step Into Starring Roles on D49 Campuses...

Starting today, you can help us build a robust team of guest teachers:

The enormous challenge we face as educators during the COVID-19 pandemic is the disruption caused by precautionary quarantines that force our teachers and support teams to stay home. Simply put, if we do not have the staff to teach in person, we have to shut our doors and resume remote learning, a pattern that is unsustainable as we strive to deliver top-notch education at D49.

Don't be discouraged, because you can help!

Using a special provisional license from the Colorado Department of Education, we are inviting our parents, and any members of the extended D49 Family to join our team as guest teachers through the D49 Parent Star Program. Click the "What's Next?" button below for additional opportunities.

If you are someone who likes working with kids, and have a flexible schedule, stepping in as a guest teacher in D49 is a great way to support our schools. It has never been easier to earn some extra cash while stepping in to star as a guest teacher.
