The Weekly Update #19
From the Desk of Ms. Hicks
Welcome back families!
We hope everyone had a great holiday break. We have about 3 more weeks left in the quarter. Now is the time to check in with your students to find out what support they may need to help them finish strong. Please check PowerSchool, make sure there are no missing assignments, and have them check in with their teachers for any possible redo opportunities. We have another honor roll assembly planned and we would love all of our students to join!

THANK YOU PTA!
The entire staff would like to thank the PTA and our families for everything they did for our school around the holidays. The teachers loved and were very grateful for the 12 days of Bates-Mas donations. The coffee truck was a hit along with all the cookies and treats the families brought in. It made the days leading up to the holiday that much more exciting. Lastly, thank you to all the families that donated to the Bargain Basement! The kids had a great time!
Please congratulate our Students of the Month - NOVEMBER

Are you ready for a SNOW DAY?
An inclement weather day could mean a few different scenarios:
1. Snow day - Entire day off
2. Two hour delay - School will begin at 11:15am
3. Virtual Synchronous - Live teaching through Google Meets found on your student's Brightspace pages. Attendance will be taken for each class. (See below schedule)
4. Virtual Asynchronous - Your student must log into Brightspace to get their assignments for each class no later than 2pm to be considered present for attendance.
To make sure your student is prepared for an inclement weather day, please ensure they bring home their chromebooks daily with their chargers and they know how to log onto Brightspace from home. Any problems, please contact the school.
Bates Student Food Pantry - OPEN Mondays and Fridays
Reminder:
Our pantry is currently open Mondays from 3:30-3:55 pm and Fridays from arrival through the end of advisory. If interested in learning more about our Student Food Pantry please have your student go to the counseling department to speak to Shauna Rykiel, our school social worker, or you may contact her through email at srykiel@aacps.org.
Covid Test Kits and Masks
The Bates PTA has obtained a supply of COVID-19 home tests and KN95 masks.
They are available for pick up in the school office. Please note that they must be picked up by an adult.
If you cannot get to school and need test kits, please contact the PTA at batesmiddleschoolpta@gmail.com or text us at 443-782-5423 and we will arrange to get some to you!
PTA Events
The ice rink at Quiet Waters Park will be opening on Friday, December 9th, and so will the Middle School Hot Chocolate Stand.
The Bates and AMS PTAs join together to sell hot chocolate, candy, snacks, and water on Fridays and Saturdays at the rink.
This is our biggest fundraiser, but we need your help to make it a success!
We need donations to help stock the booth. You can order supplies online or deliver them locally. The wishlist is available here: https://tinyurl.com/cocoasupplies
We need volunteers to help run the booth. Please consider volunteering for a shift! We will train you, and all students will receive signed documentation for service hours completed. You can sign up here: https://tinyurl.com/cocoashack
Thank you for your support!
