October Newsletter All About Roynon

Roynon Families,

Roynon's PTA Fall Fundraiser kicked off on Friday, September 28th. Information regarding this fundraiser was sent home on Monday, October 1st. This fundraiser was very successful last year and our students have benefited because of you! Thank you in advance for your generosity. All orders should be submitted by Friday, October 19th. In addition to the information sent home, we have detailed information in the latter part of this newsletter. You can also directly access the fundraiser on the web at https://bit.ly/RoynonPTA. Our school ID# is 5006291.

October begins with Parent Conferences and ends with our Halloween Parade. Sandwiched in between we have our Title 1 Parent Informational Meeting in conjunction with the grand opening of Tuesday Nights at the Roynon Library, Grandparents' Day, Great Shakeout, Red Ribbon Week, and Fall Ball.

You can find information about all of these events and our focus on the Seven Healthy Habits of Healthy Kids below. We appreciate the time you take to read through the entire newsletter. It is one of the primary ways we communicate with our Roynon families.

Title 1 Meeting & Inaugural Tuesday Library Night

Roynon is one of two "School Wide Title 1" elementary schools in Bonita USD for the 2018-19 school year. Title I is a program that provides additional academic support and learning opportunities for students at schools with high percentages of socioeconomically disadvantaged children. The program is intended to help ensure that all students meet state academic standards

As a Title 1 school, we have developed a "Parent and Family Engagement Policy" which is linked below. If you would like more information regarding Title 1, please attend our Parent Information Meeting on Tuesday, October 9th from 5:00 - 5:30 in the MPR. If you are interested in attending our Title 1 Parent Informational Meeting, please RSVP below.

In addition, we are excited to announce that our library will be open on Tuesday evenings for students to check out books and take AR tests. The first Tuesday Night at the Roynon Library will be held after the Title 1 meeting on October 9th. The library will be open that evening from 5:30 - 7pm. Beginning on October 16th, the library will be open every evening from 5-7pm. Students must be accompanied by an adult while visiting the library.

On October 18 at 10:18 am, all schools in Bonita USD will be participating in the Great California ShakeOut. We will run an Earthquake Drill at 10:18 am and then evacuate to the grass area. Our drill should take approximately 1 hour. PLEASE support Roynon Student Council.'s Socktober project by donating new socks for children or adults. It is a great event which helps build empathy in our students and an awareness of others. Last year, we collected almost 2000 pairs of socks that were donated to local charity that supports the homeless in our surrounding communities. Thank you to Mrs. Miranda, Mr. Baur, and our Student Council students for supporting this event.

Students can drop off new socks in the Socktober boxes around campus.

The Seven Habits of Healthy Kids

In order to enhance the social emotional learning of our students, Roynon is learning about the Seven Habits of Healthy Kids this year. Each month, we focus on a different habit. Last month, our focus was BE PROACTIVE. Perhaps you heard your student talk about it at home. Our morning messages are centered around the monthly habit and we will be honoring a small group of students each month who have worked hard to master the habit. This month's focus is Habit #2 – BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND. In the life of a child, this means:

  • I plan ahead and set goals.
  • I do things that have meaning and make a difference.
  • I am an important part of my classroom. I look for ways to be a good citizen.

For those of you who are interested in extending this habit to home, here are some ideas:

  • Have a family discussion about goals and what each child wants to be when they grow up. Discuss things you could do right now to be working towards those goals. Make an action plan and get started.
  • Make a family mission statement.
  • Create a family budget. Have kids determine how to spend and save their allowance.
