Immunization Exclusion Day - February 19, 2020
State law requires that all children in public and private schools, preschools, Head Start and certified child care facilities have up-to-date immunizations, or have a medical or nonmedical exemption.
Parents or guardians will receive a letter in early February if their child’s immunization record shows that he or she has not received the required vaccinations. Children will not be able to attend school or childcare starting February 19, 2020, if their records on file show missing immunizations.
8th Grade Parent Night
8th Grade students and families are invited to attend an informational night for current ISB 8th Graders and parents/guardians on Tuesday, February 11th from 6:30-7:30 pm. This 8th Grade Night will provide information about how to interpret PSAT 8/9 score reports, ISB's high school program, as well as information about transitioning to a neighborhood high school or private school. All current ISB 8th graders will be enrolled to attend ISB in 9th grade, unless parents/guardians elect to enroll their child at another high school. We'll share that process during this presentation.
10th Grade Parent Night
Sophomores and their parents/guardians are invited to join DP Coordinator Amy Schuff and Counselor Kathryn Hirsch for an informative meeting about ISB's implementation of the IB Diploma Program on Wednesday, February 19 from 6:30-7:30 pm. Next week in Advisory class your student will be forecasting for their 2020-21 courses and it's the perfect time to learn about the IB Diploma Program in detail. In addition to a staff presentation, you'll have the chance to hear from current ISB juniors and seniors in a panel discussion about thriving and finding balance in their high school experience. We hope to see you there!
Security Upgrade Update
ISB is fortunate to have implemented several security upgrades courtesy of the current bond. Last spring our classroom door locks were upgraded and now lock from the inside. Over the summer and fall you may have noticed the installation of key card readers and a second set of interior entrance doors. Last week, our key card system was activated which has provided additional security for our school. Students are adapting well to the changes we've made in procedures for accessing our buildings during the school day, however there are a few ways this may impact our families. The school will open for student arrival at 6:40 am. Students arriving after 7:30 am must enter through the main entrance and office. All visitors will use this same entrance and need to ring a bell and be admitted to the office by staff who can interact with you via a monitor. You will find the monitor just to the left of the office door once you've entered the vestibule.
Middle School International Social
On Friday, February 21, ISB Middle School will be holding their annual International Social from 2:15 – 4:00 PM. There will be food, music, dancing, art, , cake walk, The Amazing Race, lots of fun games, and a special activity in the gym.

All students must provide their own transportation home. There is no school bus service available after the social.
ACT/Community Service Day
Tuesday, February 25th is a unique day at ISB for all grades. Here's a look at activities for each grade level:

Culture Week Update
The 2020 Culture Week Committee would like to thank the staff for supporting all of our Culture Week activities; from helping with set up and clean up to providing supervision for all of the workshops and assemblies and so much more. We sincerely appreciate the 49 staff, students, parents and community members who shared their time and expertise with our students through presentations on an interesting variety of topics. Culture Week is a unique and anticipated annual event that we hope will continue for years to come. It is entirely organized by a committee of dedicated parents. Please consider volunteering for next year’s committee. Planning begins in late September.
We would also like to thank Rick and Colleen McLaughlin for bringing their amazing dragon boat to ISB. The McLaughlins would like to invite anyone who is interested in participating in the Dragon Boat Races to contact them for more information about joining or establishing a dragon boat team. For youth, teams consist of a captain and up to 29 members. Each team boat has 10 female and 10 male paddlers. The caller, flag catcher, and steer person can be either female or male. Practices are 2 - 3 times per week until race weekend, which is June 6 & 7, 2020. The cost for each youth team is $800.00 or $28.00 per team member. Additional costs for team shirt/uniform and race day food will also be incurred. If you are interested, please visit www.pksca.net for more information.
ISB raised $358.51 for Team Lucy Meyers! Thank you to everyone who donated during the “Minute to Win It” lunch games. Lucy appreciated the donation to her partnership with Special Olympics and UNICEF.
Outdoor School Leaders
NWRESD Outdoor School is recruiting current 10th-12th graders to serve as Student Leaders for their spring programs. A counselor recommendation is required for participation. ISB Counselors will be considering a student's attendance record, prior experience in making up work after an absence, and current academic performance. To learn more, pick up an interest card in the Student Information Center or visit the Outdoor School website.

High School Student Survey
High school students will be surveyed this year by accessing a link through a Canvas announcement. The survey will be available in English and Spanish. The survey window is February 3-June 5.
Each year the District surveys students, staff, and parents to gather information for planning, program evaluation, and assessment of progress on the District's Strategic Plan.
The student survey takes about 20 minutes during the regular school day. The data gathered from the survey are anonymous; your child will not put his/her name or other identifying information on the survey. Like other surveys, results will be presented only about groups. No individual data will be reported.
Student surveys of middle and high schools include three optional questions for students to identify their gender, ethnicity / race, and sexual orientation. These questions allow for additional levels of analysis of questions on inclusion, safety and bullying.
Your child may skip questions or stop filling out the survey at any time. Refusing to participate or withdrawing from the survey does not affect your child's grades or class standing in any way. If you or your child does not want to participate, your child can read or do some other activity while his or her classmates complete the survey.
A copy of the survey is available from your child's school under the Annual Surveys tab and is posted at https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/accountabiity/research-reports
After reviewing the survey, if you do not want your child to participate, please notify Scott Gladney at scott_carey-gladney@beaverton.k12.or.us.
https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/accountabiity/research-reports
Después de revisar la encuesta, si usted no quiere que su hijo participe, por favor notifique a Scott Gladney at scott_carey-gladney@beaverton.k12.or.us.

Beaverton School District Inclement Weather Information
When the weather outside gets inclement, school schedules could be affected. The District makes decisions based on the ability to operate school buses safely; the ability of parents and students to drive safely; and the ability of students to walk safely.
