MTSD Monthly Staff News
March 2019
Message from the Superintendent's Office
Our Administrative Team is busy planning for the remaining school events and programs for this academic year as well as beginning initial planning for the next school year. Providing a thorough and efficient education for students requires careful thought, planning, and consideration by many school community members.
Looking ahead to the Spring, we all look forward to the warmer days, the longer daylight hours, and the buzz around the ball fields. Resuming an outside schedule once again will be exciting for us all.
Please mark your calendar for the Staff Climate Meeting on March 13th. There will be two meetings: 7:30am in the JHES Library and 3:45pm in my Conference Room in MTES. Also, March 25th from 6:30pm-8pm I will be hosting a meeting to discuss our Year 1 Strategic Plan accomplishments.
There are many exciting things taking place in Mansfield this coming summer. I am looking forward to seeing our Summer Camp be a HUGE success!
Please accept my deep appreciation and gratitude for all you do to create the conditions for excellence in our schools! It’s meaningful, important work that I hope you are very proud of.
Looking forward to the warmer and brighter days ahead.

Notes From Our Office...
Hi everyone! Here a few notes and reminders from the business office. Everyone should have received their 1095C. Please me on the lookout, and contact Marie Tilton if you have not received yours.
Please also remember that after you attend a Professional Development session, the pink purchase order form needs to be signed with the evaluation form and returned to Diane Buckley within ten days. This informs the office that the vendor payment and mileage reimbursement can be processed. Extra PD evaluation forms can be found in the business office. Thank you!

Something to Think About....
We utilized a clip chart with ADULTS during our training this morning. Turns out that adults absolutely hate this public display of behavior. Resulted in anxiety, disengagement, fear, resentment and embarrassment. If adults don’t like these tools, how do you think kids feel?

School Spirit Day: Jersey Day!
Buildings and Grounds Department
It’s going to Snow!
Winter storms can be a challenge for both the Buildings and Grounds department and administration; safety is always our top priority.
For the Buildings and Grounds department preparation for a forecasted snow event is essential.
A day or two before a winter storm is predicted for the area we are checking different weather models to see what we may be dealing with. Will it be a light drifting snow, a heavy wet snow, will there be ice and sleet and how cold will it be. The conditions and timing of a winter weather event dictate strategy for our snow removal operations; each winter storm is a unique event.
As a storm moves closer the Buildings and Grounds department prepares and tests the snow removal equipment; snowplows are mounted on the trucks, equipment will be fueled and ready to go.
Hours before the winter storm moves into the region superintendents throughout the area are in contact; tough decisions have to be made and the timing of a storm plays a big part in those decisions.
The Buildings and Grounds staff has excellent well-maintained equipment available to clear the parking lots and sidewalks. The equipment used depends on the conditions. A light dusting of snow can be removed with a backpack blower; if a light snow of less than 5” falls we may decide to use the snow pusher box mounded on the John Deere frontend loader to clear the MTES parking lots. If the snow is heavy we may use the two Ford F350 pickup trucks with the 8’ Western plows.
Icy conditions can be the most challenging; during icy conditions the Buildings and Grounds staff my spread over 1500 lbs. of rock salt on the parking lots and more than 500 lbs. of calcium chloride on the sidewalks to ensure staff and students can enter and leave the building safely.
For many of these winter storm events the dedicated staff of the Buildings and Grounds department are on site in the early morning hours working hard to make the grounds safe for the day’s activities.
