Family Fun Project
When students learn to understand and work with all family members in a positive way, they learn skills such as respect, responsibility, teamwork, dependability, compassion, honesty, hard work, understanding, social manners, trustworthiness, consideration, plus many other skills that are important at school, as well as later in the workplace. All society benefits from families that support each other and function well together.
Family Fun Project
Family Project Types:
1- A project WITH all family members living under the same roof participating. (100 points) OR/ and
2- A project FOR the family where the student does something to help the family to function better. (100 pts.) If you are doing two projects, you should do one of each type. If you are just doing one, I prefer that you do one WITH the family. Each project requires different type of leadership skills: “with” teaches teamwork and group leadership; while “for” teaches self-discipline and personal motivation.
Time is one of the most valuable resources people have, so students have the opportunity to accomplish this assignment whichever way works the best for their family, but the first preference would be with the whole family. Students are given at least three weekends and two full weeks to accomplish this assignment. What you choose to do to accomplish this can be done in a wide variety of ways and is entirely up to the individual student, family and their needs. Students are responsible for accomplishing this assignment, but they will need the support and encouragement of parents/guardians.
Project Requirements: The actual project should take at least 1/2 hours plus additional planning and evaluation time. The only activities that WILL NOT be allowed are watching a movie, a video, or anything involving the TV or the computer; going out to eat or to a movie. Only 45 minutes of attending a sibling’s sports game will count, the other 45 minutes must be doing something face to face playing together. Please plan to do an activity that all family members are face to face, laughing and having fun doing something together. The project does not need to cost any money, but it can require a small amount if the parent agrees with the plan.
Pre - Planning Instructions: Students should work with parents/ guardian to decide which type works best for their family and what they would like to do. Student should do ALL the planning, organizing, and preparing for the event as needed, do the project and then look back and evaluate by answering the questions. Parent/Guardian should then make a short evaluation and sign and date the form.
Project Ideas: This is just a few ideas to get the ideas rolling in your family. You will want to come up with one of your own. A With the family”: play board games, do a service project, work in the garden, fix a special meal together, put a puzzle together, have a family meeting, go ice skating, have a picnic, paint the hall, go to the park, etc. AFor the family”: clean the refrigerator, range, or garage; wash down the family room walls, wash the windows, clean up the yard for spring or fall, make a family memory book, organize the storage room, clean out some cupboards, etc.
