Important Reminders
- Welcome to the second weekly newsletter! Please read this letter each week to learn about important updates in our classroom, school, and to find out what your child is learning about!
- Scholastic Book Orders are due mid-September (please check the paper from Meet the Teacher Night - I don't have it in front of me but I want to say I wrote September 15). You can order online with Scholastic, and the code to help our class earn books is NDJXN. Orders are submitted online only -- I do not accept paper orders or checks, sorry. Orders are submitted monthly. Thank you for helping our class earn free books!
- There are no special events or assemblies happening at school this week. Remember, next weekend is Labor Day weekend so there is no school on Monday, September 4th.
- Thank you to those parents/guardians who signed up to help out in our class! It does not have to be in person, it can be "behind the scenes" too. If you did not fill out the parent volunteer form but you meant to, please contact me. I have already been reaching out to volunteers for donations and they've been awesome so far!
- Miss Katie Yen is our student teacher this semester. Her first day of student teaching begins tomorrow and she will be with us through December. Please welcome her to our class!
Thanks,
Mrs. Reiber

What we are learning in Room 12...
If your child is going to be absent, please let me know well in advance if possible, so I can send make-up work with them.
- Math - We have begun our first math unit about multiplication. Students are learning about how to count equal groups! You can help your child at home by reviewing "repeated addition" and skip-counting with them.
- Reading - Students will learn about procedures regarding our classroom library and will start to practice our reading routine. This year we are going to incorporate the Daily 5 in reading, writing, spelling, and vocabulary content! I will also work one-on-one with students to assess their beginning of the year reading level.
- Writing/Spelling - This is our first week of spelling words, the pattern is "long a" words. The words will be in the back of the yellow take-home folder and the test will take place on Friday. In writing class, we will review parts of speech, proper grammar, and how to write a complete sentence.
- Social Studies - Our first unit is about citizenship and government. We will assess students' knowledge of the citizenship part of the unit on Friday!
