SSHS Library Newsletter

Winter Edition, 2019

So far this school year, the SSHS Library has checked out over 5700 textbooks and over 1600 library books.

We got off to a late start, but beginning in the new year, freshmen will be visiting the library to learn all about how to use: library print resources, library catalog resources, and our SSHS electronic databases. Students will also learn how to electronically highlight and take notes on database articles and how to download and save these notated articles to Google Drive and upload to Google Classroom. These skills can be applied to every subject at SSHS. To find out how you can have your students use these newly-acquired skills in your subject/class, please contact Carol.

New books should arrive in the library any day now. Here are a few of the titles all of your students will be talking about.

Here are a few sites you won't want to miss.

Powtoon is an interactive video presentation program. The kids love it and so will you. Tim uses it to create and show a video presentation to students on the first day of school and to parents at Back-To-School Night. You've got to check this one out!

Here is another resource for augmenting your lessons. ClassHook allows teachers to easily find video clips from TV shows and movies. You're going to love this one, too.

University of Wisconsin - Rubrics

More and more of you are using digital portfolios and other alternate assessments. Here is a site that provides excellent rubrics for alternative assignments.

Image Annotator - from Classroom Tools

This is an extremely user-friendly site that all teachers can use. Just upload your image, and this tool will create "hot spots" that allow you to annotate and add links to the image. This would be a wonderful tool for creating interactive class lessons. You can even embed your final image onto your website or provide a link to it for your students

Blog - Classroom Management Checklists

I found this blog from Learn Lead Grow about creating classroom management checklists using Google Sheets. The video is short and informative. This tool could be helpful for any subject, anywhere. You can even use it on your phone and share it with your students. (applications for home use also)

Chrome Apps, Extensions, & Add-Ons for Educators

Click on the button above to find my recommendations for Chrome Extensions, Apps, & Add-ons. These Chrome resources are invaluable tools for teachers (and are great time-savers, too)

Halloween Fun

Here is a little Halloween fun in the library.
