Morey Tiger News
Welcome Back!!!! 2021-2022 School Year
WE ARE SO HAPPY TO WELCOME ALL STUDENTS BACK IN SCHOOL!!!!
We are looking forward to a great year at the Morey School!
The first day of school for Grades 1-4 is Tuesday, August 31st. Our school day is 7:30am-1:50pm.
The first day of school for Kindergarten and PreK is Tuesday, September 7. Kindergarten hours are 7:30am-1:50pm. Morning (AM) PreK is 7:30am-10:00am. Afternoon (PM) PreK is 11:20am-1:50pm.
We know you have many questions.
Will my child be in person or remote?
All students will be in person full-time. There is no remote/virtual learning option for students. (If you have a medical reason, your doctor will need to complete a certification for home education for medical reasons.)
Are there any other options for my child(ren) other than in-person school?
For the 2021-2022 academic year, remote learning has not been approved for student learning time under any circumstances related to COVID-19. Families who do not wish for their child to attend in-person have options:
- Homeschool - Families can apply for a home school assignment where the families become responsible for the curriculum and instruction of their children. For more information about the homeschool option, please call (978) 674-4323 or go https://www.lowell.k12.ma.us/homeschool
- Homebound – This program is for students who are unable to attend school because of a medical condition. Please contact your child’s school if you have questions about the homebound program.
- Non-district Virtual Academy - Two virtual schools have been issued certificates to operate in Massachusetts: Greenfield Commonwealth Virtual School (GCVS) and TEC Connections Academy Commonwealth Virtual School (TECCA). Both enroll students in kindergarten through twelfth grade who reside in Massachusetts. Please contact these schools directly for questions related to their virtual academy programs.
What about masks?
The city requires masks to be worn in all city buildings regardless of vaccination status. The schools are all city buildings, so everyone will be wearing masks (unless s/he qualifies for a medical exception).
How can I learn more about school procedures?
We will be hosting a virtual Orientation for all families on Monday, August 23rd at 5:00pm. We will talk about what we've done to get ready for the school year, the procedures for arrival and dismissal, our safety procedures, and curricular information. Please join us.
Meeting ID: 812 2148 8470
What does my child need?
Your child will need a backpack. We recommend finding a comfortable set of headphones or earbuds for your child as well. We have disposable masks here at school, but many children like wearing their own from home. If so, please pack extra masks.
Classrooms also appreciate donations of tissues, paper towels, disinfecting wipes, and pencils. It's amazing to think about how fast we go through these items.
You can also go to our school's website at: https://www.lowell.k12.ma.us/domain/2942
Your child's teacher will be in touch if there are classroom specific items needed.
We have missed you and can't wait to see you all soon!

Great Garden and Nutrition News!
Also, as part of the district's Farm to School grant, the Morey School will be part of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program this year. All students will have access to a fresh fruit or vegetable snack twice per week. Many of the selections will be from local farms as well. Our students will also have nutrition lessons throughout the year.
