Parade of Books
We are excited to have our scholars participate in the Parade of Books on October 31st.
Scholars will need to choose a book and/or character to portray in the Parade of Books."
Teachers may have scholars select characters from a class book study already in progress.
Scholars will write a brief summary character analysis for hall displays. This work will be done during literacy block this week.
All scholars will decorate a book covers representing the book of choice. This work will be done during After care or Art.
Scholars who come without costumes will carry their decorated book cover.
- No bloody, gorey costumes...this is not a Halloween parade!
- No comic book superheros or licensed characters (sorry, Rugrats!)
- No elaborate face makeup.
Red Ribbon Week
“Your future is key, so stay drug free!”
Red Ribbon Week is a national drug awareness and prevention program in which schools and communities celebrate and educate children and adults about living a drug free life. NMAPA will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week October 23rd-October 27th.

Together, we can make a huge impact in the lives of others in our community. Requested items are:
- 1 lb bags of rice
- canned chicken
- spaguetti sauce
- breakfast cereal
- meal in a can (ex; ravioli)
- children’s clothes sizes 0 to 6 both girls and boys. Clothes can be new or gently used
Counselors Corner
The character trait for the month of October is “Sharing.” We define sharing as taking turns and letting others go first. We at NMAPA want our Eagles to share our educational space so that all students can have great learning experiences each day. The weekly character challenges of the month are:
Share by allowing another student go first on the playground.
Share by taking turns.
Share our educational space by waiting your turn to get help from the teacher.
Share responsibility by offering to help clean up.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. To ensure that our school is a safe space, encourage your child to:
Make friends with someone they don’t know at school.
Be a leader. Take action and don't let anyone at school be in isolation.
Practice kindness and encourage others to be kind
Be brave and help others if you see someone being unkind.
Fall Picture Day
IOWA Testing
Dear 2nd and 5th grade Parents,
Your child will be participating in the 2017 administration of The Iowa Assessments between Monday, October 23rd through Friday, October 27th.. The Iowa Assessments help determine how students are performing on nationwide standards.
The Iowa Assessments help teachers identify a student’s strengths and areas that may need additional emphasis. The Iowa Assessments also measure student growth and progress in the content areas assessed from year to year. The assessments produce information that enables sound decision making and provides a focus for teachers to evaluate instruction.
Thank you for making sure your child is present and on time each of these days. Our staff wants to provide your child with the best opportunity to be successful. Since the formal testing environment cannot be duplicated in a make-up session, it is to your child’s advantage to be at school during these scheduled test days. Once testing has begun each day, no child will be allowed to enter the classroom tardy.
