Alta Vista Cares: Helping in Turkey
We are all heartbroken by the loss of life and devastation due to the earthquake in Turkey and the surrounding region. Although there are still miracles happening as survivors are found in the rubble, there is also great need.
If you would like to contribute to the efforts to help survivors and the communities that have been impacted by this tragedy, please consider making a donation to the Red Cross or one of the organizations listed below. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of others.

Thank you to Alta Vista parent Duygu Aykol
for providing this list of agencies that are helping in the region.
Cell Phones and Smart Watches on Campus
More and more students are bringing cell phones and/or smart watches to school, so it is a good time to remind everyone of the rules and regulations related to these devices:
- A cell phone and/or a smart watch may be carried to school and at school-sponsored activities. However, cell phone usage is restricted to before and after school and at school-sponsored activities as long as they do not create a distraction or disruption.
- It is a student’s responsibility to ensure that cell phones and/or a smart watch are turned off and out of sight during during school hours. This means that the devices need to be students' backpacks. Alternatively, phones and/or watches can be kept in the office between 8:15 and 2:40.
- The Union School District shall not assume responsibility for theft, loss, or damage of a cell phone and/or smart watch.
All students with a cell phone and/or smart watch on must have a completed Cellular Permission Slip on file in the office. If you have not yet filled out the form, you'll find a PDF at the bottom of the newsletter.

What is your favorite thing about Alta Vista?
I am very thankful for our Home and School Club and all the support they give to the students, teachers, staff. They are so generous with the class funds and also help us with our PE program.
Tell us about your family.
I am married with one son. My husband and I both grew up in the bay area. My son is in his last year of college. We love to shop, watch movies, and eat out together. We also enjoy watching sporting events such as the SF Giants, 49ers, and Warriors games.
What do you like to do when you are not at school?
I love to relax with a good book or watch tv. I also like going to coffee shops and catching up with friends.
