Kia ora Parents and Whānau,

We hope that you are managing well in your Alert Level 4 Bubbles. Thanks for all of the support that you are giving to the teachers and classroom programmes. We couldn’t do it without you!!

There have been lots of reminders from the Government and Ministry of Health about Wellbeing and the importance of family time. To ensure that we support this the staff have allowed more individualised time in their programmes, together with time for learners to complete things around the home or to do things with you as a family.

Earlier this year we used the organisation Resilient Youth to survey our learners.Here is some information below

In 2020 – 2021 Resilient Youth surveyed 6,324 young people in New Zealand aged 8-14 years through an online survey. This survey collects analyses and reports on the resilience of young people in terms of their strengths, life satisfaction, hopefulness, anxiety and depression, coping style, risk and protective behaviours.

We have noticed that many of our learners are gaming or ‘social networking’ late into the night. Please remind your children that all devices including phones should be turned off and in public family areas from just before bedtime.

The Resilience Project - Hugh Van Rensberg (Founder of The Resilience Project) talks about strategies to support our mental health and how to cope in this difficult time.

Mindfulness and meditation - Mindfulness and meditation are often put forward as solutions to our stresses and anxiety - but what exactly is mindfulness and meditation, how do they differ, and what are some tips to get started?

TRP@Home. This is a great way to keep your wellbeing going during lockdown and a fun way to get the family involved!

There are activities for the 3 GEM principles (Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness) that The Resilience Project base their wellbeing around that we focus on at school. Click on the links below to have a look and find some cool activities to keep the wellbeing going in your household!

ICAS exams are on hold at this time. New dates for the Science and Maths exams will be shared once we are back at school and able to meet in larger groups.


Ministry of Education - Alert Level 4 Reminders

A big thank you for taking the lockdown seriously and doing what we have been asked – we’ve seen before that staying at home will break the chain of transmission and save lives. It is even more important that we all follow the health advice because the Delta variant is very contagious.

Breaking the rules risks the health of those close to you, the wider community and could result in the lockdown period being extended.

Please remember that the school, playground and school grounds remain closed at Alert Level 4.

As always, please let us know if there is anything you need to support you and your tamariki during this time.

Take The Stage 2021

This is a great opportunity for learners to register themselves and perform on the Aotea Centre stage. Please read the Auckland Liv blurb below:

Auckland Live is excited to announce it will be opening the doors to the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre, Aotea Centre for performers of all ages to Take the Stage on Saturday 25 – Sunday 26 September 2021.

For just two days only, Aucklanders will have the opportunity to perform under the bright lights on the big stage that has previously hosted the likes of Prince, Ed Sheeran, the Royal New Zealand Ballet, Norah Jones, Nederlands Dans Theater and more.

Anyone and everyone is encouraged to give it a go, no matter what skill level. Whether you’re a budding musician, a dancer in the making, a fierce kapa haka group, a community choir or you’re just wanting to make your on-stage debut. It’s free to take part in, plus you’ll get to take home a recording of your performance – bonus!

Every performance deserves a supportive audience! So, Auckland Live is inviting the public to come along and experience the great Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre and cheer on the performers – free of charge. The variety of talent is limitless, and you never know, you could be witnessing the next big act of Aotearoa.

Registrations for Take the Stage are now open and close at midnight on Sunday 15 August.

Musical Instrument lessons available at school

Our School works with the Music Education Centre to offer parents the convenience of specialist instrumental lessons for their children here at school. If you would like to find out more about this opportunity, please contact the Music Education Centre directly on 0800 89 39 39 or

Guitar Lessons starting Term 3 - Dave Gatman

Hi there! I have taught Guitar to kids in schools for over 15 years. I love working with kids and inspiring the next generation of musicians. I like to make my lessons as positive and fun as possible, teaching a range of songs from traditional folk/blues to the current pop and rock tunes.

I've played the guitar in a large variety of settings, and I'm currently in a covers band playing at weddings, bars and parties.

Lessons are in groups of up to 4 at a time, and cost $20.00 plus gst, for half an hour.

Individual lessons are offered if I feel like the student will benefit from them, and if I have space. These cost $35.00 plus GST per half hour.

Lessons are on Wednesday mornings at TNIS as well.
