A MESSAGE FROM MR. LUCITA

Dear Jaguar Band Families,

Here we go heading into the second week of 2021! I am super excited that as I sit here writing the letter I am watching it snow outside! Actual snow--not sleet or a spattering of frozen rain--but flakes of snow! I’m taking that as a sign that this week is going to be great because it has had an incredible start!

This week settles down just a little, and we begin to settle into a regular routine once again. Here are a few of the important items that need mentioning!

Solo and Ensemble is in full swing! There are two different levels of Solo & Ensemble, and every student in the Jaguar Band will participate! Students developing their musical skills as individuals is vital to the success of our band has a whole. Solo & Ensemble creates an opportunity for every student to choose, prepare and perform a solo, and then be provided feed back from a judge. The difference of the two levels of Solo & Ensemble is that there is a “Local” Solo & Ensemble where we will provide the judges and there are no accompanists. The other level is the Official UIL Solo & Ensemble that allows students to possibly advance to the Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest held at the University of Texas. The date of the UIL Solo & Ensemble (S & E) changed at the end of last week. UIL S & E will still be held at Hays High School; however, it will be February 20. Again, it was moved from February 6th to the new date of February 20th. The date for the Local non-UIL Solo & Ensemble will be announced later but will follow the same basic timeline. Again, EVERY member of the Johnson Jaguar Band will participate in Solo & Ensemble, either local or UIL, and now has a solo that they should be practicing. Parents, please help us ensure you child is practicing their solo.

UIL Concert and Sight-Reading will be held the last week of March. At this point, UIL has not made a decision of the format of this Band Evaluation Event or how COVID-19 will impact the process. Our plan to to prepare as we normally would and will make any adjustments needed for the actual Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation.

Hawaii!!!!! The registration portal opened January 6th which allowed parents and students to begin registering for the trip. We will also have our regular Jaguar Band Booster meeting January 12th @ 6:30. A representative from the travel company handling our trip will be there to share important information and answer any questions you may have.

Winter Guard season is underway and the students are already working hard to continue to push their level of performance to the highest! The Guard program is the one part of our program that creates an opportunity for students who have never been in band to join and experience all the greatness and wonderful opportunities we have to offer. If you know of any students at Johnson High School who would like to be a part of something GREAT, send them our way!!

Have a great week!

Mr. Lucita

This section is for all new (Rookie!) parents! Here we will focus on various points of information that we believe would be helpful to families in their first year with the Jaguar Band.

Committee sign-ups to come soon !

It's almost time for us to start preparing for the 2021 marching season! We will be reaching out via email by the end of this month! Please let us know if you have any particular interests by filling out our Committee Interest Form!

End of "semester" and change of schedule for percussion

Since this school year started late, the semester doesn't technically end until the end of January. After this grading period, percussion no longer have a separate percussion class but rather start attending their full band class. Please direct any questions to Mr. Lunsford.

Winter Guard

Did you know that Color Guard is year round!? In the "Spring" color guards enter competitive "winter guard" circuits. Check out last year's Jaguar Winter Guard performance on their web page located HERE. If you know of someone that might be interested in joining the winter guard for the Spring Semester, have them get in contact with Mr. Duffy! It's not too late!

Communications

The band directors and boosters primarily rely on Charms to communicate information. Make sure your information is up to date in Charms. Reminder that the Jaguar Band school code is: JohnsonJaguarBand

Band Sponsorships and opportunity to put Student names on trailer!

The Johnson Jaguar Band depends in large part on the fundraising efforts of the Band Boosters. Sponsorships are a very important part of fundraising. Our Sponsorship levels have been updated, and we have a lot of exciting options for businesses AND families! We ask that every family please share this brochure with anyone you know that has a business. We are eager to help promote businesses in our community that support the Jaguar Band! If you would like color copies of our Sponsorship Brochure, we are happy to provide them.
