Can't Hide Our Hound Pride!

Howdy Hounds!

Week three finished with a bang as we wrapped up with a wonderful opportunity to meet our Huggins Hounds grandparents at our Grandparents Day lunch! Thank you to everyone that was able to make it and to our WONDERFUL volunteers for assisting with logistics and decorations.

We want to also take time to thank everyone that came to Parent Orientation/Curriculum Night on Thursday. If you were unable to attend, no worries...teachers will be sharing their presentations on their Canvas pages. Speaking of Canvas...if you have not had a chance, please be sure to get set up so that you don't miss important announcements and weekly newsletters from your child's teacher. More information can be found here.

Thank you to the dads, grandparents, uncles, etc. that have already signed up for our Watch DOGS program. We had a wonderful turnout at our kickoff event...and are looking forward to having you on campus! If you would like information about our Watch DOGS program, or need the QR code to sign up, please see the attachment below.

For the past few weeks, we have been actively monitoring our morning drop off line. It is consistently taking 45 minutes to clear our line, meaning that we still have students arriving after the school day has started. In order to ensure that all Hounds are make it into the building by 7:30am, we will be opening our doors at 6:45am starting Monday. This will allow us to clear our line within the 45 minute span of time it takes. It is essential for us to have students ready to learn in their classrooms at 7:30am, as this is when our campus-wide Hound Time starts. Please note that we will begin starting to count tardies this week. Any student that arrives after 7:30 will be considered tardy. If your child arrives after 7:30, you will need to park and escort them into the building to obtain a tardy slip from the front office, as staff members will not be outside after 7:30 to accept students.

We have had some feedback regarding concerns with the intersection of Charger Way and Charger Access Road to Katy-Fulshear. Please note that the Charger Access Road was set as a temporary access road. We have new families coming from Fulshear Bend. Please help keep the traffic flow going by treating this as a four way stop. The car rider map below outlines the traffic pattern in more detail. The extension of Katy-Fulshear Road to Fulshear Bend looks to be nearing completion. When that happens, we have been told that the Charger Access road will be closed down. This will allow cars to take Charger Way to Fulshear Bend and then come up Katy-Fulshear Road to Huggins. As we receive more details from the city, we will be sure to communicate them out to you.

It's hard to believe we are already entering week four of school! We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Bethany Cunningham

Pre-K and Kindergarten SmartTags

Ensuring the safety and security of the students riding on buses is our highest priority. To facilitate and support this safety initiative the District has implemented the Smart Tag system to promote and ensure a positive school bus riding experience for all Lamar CISD students. Students are issued Smart Tag ID cards with an electronic chip Smart sensor (please do not modify the ID cards, or place holes in the card). The student’s name is printed on the front of the card, and there is no student information stored on the card.

Students must have one or more Transportation Release Guardians listed within the students Smart Tag Parent Portal.

To ensure the safety of the children, parents/guardians or an authorized person is encouraged to be at the bus stop each day when their child is picked up and dropped off.

· Drivers will only release a student to approved guardians at the stop and must be in possession of a picture ID so the driver can verify release authorization via the Smart Tag system. If a driver is unable to verify release authorization the student will be returned to campus.

  • Parents must register this information within their students Smart Tag profile via the Smart Tag Parent Portal.

  • Parents are also responsible for keeping the information current.

  • Parents/guardians and children should know their route number, school name, and stop location.

  • Children in grades Pre-K/KG (i.e., Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten) MUST be received by an adult, parent, or authorized receiver at the designated bus stop and designated time. This could be an older sibling.
  • Parents should be at the stop ten (10) minutes prior to bus arrival.

  • Individuals receiving a Pre-K/KG student from a bus, will need to be in possession of a picture ID so the driver can verify release authorization via the Smart Tag system. If a driver is unable to verify release authorization the student will be returned to campus.

  • Should there be no one at the stop to receive a PK/KG student, the child will be taken back to the school for the parent to pick up.

  • Should this occur more than twice in a semester, the third occurrence may result in the child losing bus riding privileges.

Lunch Visitors

We will be welcoming lunch visitors the second week of school to give our teachers and staff time during the first week to teach lunchroom procedures. Starting August 29th, anyone coming to school to have lunch with their child must be listed in Skyward, as a guardian or on the emergency contact list. Lunch visitors will have a designated area to eat with their child, and we ask that no food is shared with other children.

2022-2023 Lamar CISD Safety Overview

LCISD Beginning of Year Forms - Action Needed

For the 2022-23 school year, all required Lamar Consolidated ISD beginning-of-year forms must be completed online through the Skyward Family Access Center.

Offering these forms digitally allows you the convenience of only updating information that has changed from last school year, while also helping us maintain accurate information in our student information system. Instructions, important dates and technical assistance regarding the online forms can be found by clicking here. Included on this page is a link to reset your Family Access username/password if you have forgotten it.

Online forms will be available through the Family Access Center starting Aug. 1 and all forms need to be submitted no later than Sept. 16th. Your student’s schedule will not be available online through the Family Access Center until all of the beginning-of-year forms are completed for your student and after the campus has released schedules. Student schedules will be available online on Wednesday, Aug. 17th if all online forms have been completed.

For those who need access to a computer or the Internet, computers will be available on campus Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. starting August 8th.

Huggins Dress Code

Starting with the 22-23 school year, students at Huggins Elementary will not be required to follow a uniform policy. All students must comply with the LCISD Dress Code, as outlined in the Elementary Student Handbook. We encourage all students to wear purple for Charger Thursday, in support of our Fulshear Chargers. We also encourage students to participate in Huggins Spirit Day on Fridays by wearing Huggins shirts and/or red!
