Georgia O'Keeffe Flowers
Georgia O'Keeffe was born in 1887 in Wisconsin. She grew up on a farm and loved taking art lessons after school. She knew she wanted to be an artist from a very young age. Georgia was always interested in doing things differently and looking at things closely. After completing high school she went onto study art in Chicago and Virginia. Georgia was very interested in working with abstraction and became well known for her close up bold paintings of flowers and bones.
After learning about Georgia O'Keeffe, the 4th grade students practiced their observational drawing skills. They focused on using accurate shapes and including details they found on their flowers. After completing several first drafts students moved onto their final where they used oil pastels to achieve a paint like texture and lastly they watercolored their backgrounds.
