Epps Island Newsletter

Hello Epps Island Families!

It is hard to believe that the end of the school year is here! It's been a bumpy year but together we pulled through and made the best 2020-21 school year as possible! Thank you for your support through the difficult challenges we faced in the midst of a pandemic, the perplexities of online learning, an epic snow storm and marching through unchartered territory. We did it and our students are happy and healthy thanks to us working together!

This week the students had lots of fun activities! We held the grade level Field Days despite the rainy weather. Thanks to our Tiger families' support, we also had an End of the Year celebration for all of our students! We rented a climbing wall for the older students, a trackless train, a bounce house for the younger students and popcorn and sno-cones for all! Funds from the Jog-A -Thon were used to cover the cost for these fun games. The students worked hard to help us raise money and as always, the money we raise goes right back to our students. Thank you again for your support.

We have more good news for our families! As we wrapped up our school budget, we had enough funds to cover our students' school supplies for next year!!! We can't always do this, but each year we try and we've been able to make it happen again! So, don't worry this summer about purchasing students' school supplies! We got that covered! The only thing that parents could purchase in August is our new designed school shirt which will cost $10-12.

We do have one thing that we ask of you and that is to please make sure that our Epps Island Tigers are reading this summer. Our teachers and students worked really hard to raise students' reading levels but some students are still reading below their grade level. We need students to maintain or increase their reading levels but not to decline. If you keep them reading in the summer, even if it is 20-30 minutes a day, they will be very successful next year!! The best thing to do is to make it a routine and have them read (to themselves, aloud to you or you read to them) everyday at the same time of the day.

We all want what's best for your children, our students, and we can help them the most when we work together! We hope that everyone has a safe, fun summer and we look forward to seeing our Tigers again in August!!
