SHERROD ELEMENTARY NEWSLETTER VOL 22.8
SEPTEMBER 26, 2022
For the month of September or until further notice: No bus services for Sherrod and Swanson on Mondays and Tuesdays
Sherrod Chromebook deployment
Here are a few tips for your child:
- Keep the name tag on the device
- Be sure the device comes back to school EVERY day
- Be sure the device is fully charged and ready for school use
- Keep the device in a public place, not in the bedroom
- There is replacement costs for lost or damaged devices and lost or damaged power cords. Replacement starts at $300 and is depreciated in value each year; replacement for power cords $30.00
- Kids can decorate their Chromebook case to individualize it. Please do not cover their name tag or any service tags or barcodes. Do not personalize the Chromebook device itself, only the outer case.
Responding yes to this survey authorizes your child to transport their device to and from school. Only students with a completed survey will transport Chromebooks, this will confirm that parents are willing to take on the responsibility.
If your child forgets their device, a phone call home will be made stating that your child did not come to school prepared for success. Students who do not have a charged Chromebook or forgot their Chromebook at home will complete paper pencil assignments for that day's schoolwork.

TRANSPORTATION 🚍 Where’s My Bus Tracking Update
TRANSPORTATION🚍
The GPS system that helps identify where buses are located during a route is operating. However, there are approximately 20 buses that are borrowed from Fairbanks, and cannot be dual registered, so they won’t show up in the app. The Fairbanks buses will be phased out and returned. Durham (Wasilla) buses are trickling in from the manufacturer, as they (the manufacturer) are experiencing supply line issues. The current estimated date for all the local buses to be licensed and inspected is by January 2023.
Parent usernames and passwords for the Where's My Bus tracker are the phone number that they identified at registration. Some notes about logging in:
- Use the ten-digit phone number for both the username and password; do not enter any dashes or parentheses for area code.
- A student needs to be associated with a bus stop in our system in order for the app to work.
- If all information is present and the student is identified, a map will show up for the parent. This is an indication that the system should be working.
- If parents have any issues with logging in, they should call IT Call Center at 907-761-4357.
Notes from Nurse Emily
Head Lice
It's a good idea to periodically screen your student's head for lice. There appears to be a large spike in the overall number of cases in the valley. If we all do our part, we can help keep this nuisance out of our school and reduce the impact it has on our students.
Please check your child(ren) and if you find evidence of head lice, immediate treatment should be given. If your child requires treatment, please contact Nurse Emily so she will know to check other students who have close contact or might have shared personal items.
Head lice are not a disease, but should be treated seriously as they can not only cost time and money, but can impact our children’s self-esteem, quality of sleep, and repeated treatments can be harsh on scalps and have potential side effects.
If you have any questions concerning head lice, please do not hesitate to contact Nurse Emily 761-4103
