Alice ISD Board of Trustees Approve Pay Raises for All Teachers
On Monday, April 12, 2021, our Board of Trustees unanimously approved the 2021-2022 Teacher and Librarian Pay Scale.
Our beginning Teacher will now start at $50,000 and our 30-plus will be at $62,000. This will put us in the top 5 districts in Region 2.
Just a few short years ago, we were amongst the lowest in the region and our beginning teachers started at $38,000 and the end point was $49,900.
“Thanks to our Finance Department and the School Board for their focused action in increasing our scales from beginning to end - $12,000 since June of 2018,” Alice ISD Superintendent Dr. Carl Scarbrough said. “We know we can be even more competitive with our compensation plans, and we will remain committed in doing so.”
As the State Legislative Session gets closer to finalizing the financial picture for the next Biennium, we will be bringing to the Board for consideration and action our other 2021-2022 Pay Scales: Other Professionals, Auxiliary, Paraprofessionals/ Clerks, Food Services, and Administrators.
“We are hopeful that the State will allow more of the 2nd and 3rd round of stimulus funds to flow to the district,” Scarbrough said. “We would be able to utilize these funds to enhance educational services, hire additional support staff, improve HVAC systems, and upgrade technology district-wide.”
The Board of Trustees also approved two leadership positions: Grace Perez - Schallert Elementary Principal, and Anna Holmgreen – Executive Director of Human Resources. Both were working as interims in their respective positions and are now officially on board.
The Board also approved a Resolution to move forward and create the Alice ISD Education Foundation. The foundation will work collaboratively to enhance and support the goals and initiatives of the school district.
The City of Alice Mayor presented 2 City Keys to Dr. Carl Scarbrough, School Board of Trustee and Alice ISD staff
City of Alice Mayor Jolene Vanover awarded two Keys to the City to Alice ISD during the school board meeting on Monday, April 12, 2021.
Mayor Vanover presented one key to Superintendent Dr. Carl Scarbrough and another key to the School Board of Trustees and Alice ISD staff who went above and beyond during the freezing weather in February to accommodate the elderly and those who had no electricity or heat.
“Without any hesitation (Dr. Carl Scarbrough) said we’re here to help, what do you need?” Vanover said. “And immediately almost within 30 minutes, an hour tops, he had the school secured as a warming center for our citizens who weren’t able to stay warm at this time.”
Alice ISD Staff including Coaches, Security, Food Service, Custodians, Maintenance and Operations, Technology, and Administrators were there to help setup cots, cook food, pass out water, movies and the facility was kept clean and as comfortable as possible for all the families.

Currently on exhibit in the 400 Wing Gallery are watercolor paintings of animals that
both color and design were abstracted. Students studied the works of Franz Marc for
inspiration.
The Center Gallery features “Wishes and Dreams: Prom 2021.” Students worked to
develop their mannequins to model their prom designs for this year. Notable works in
this exhibit are by A.P. Drawing student Layla Corona and Art II Student Sheyla Villa.
They both decided that their perfect outfits would feature pinstripes and silk ties. Their
unit of study included a day in the life of a clothing designer/illustrator.
Thanks to the new printer purchased with the Ed Rachal Grant Funds, our Right Gallery
houses works submitted by our virtual students. We have portraits, true romance, and
other stunning pieces created by our students at home.
Alice High School Art II and AP artists recently submitted artwork for the Texas
State-Fish Art Contest. These Mixed Media works feature our state fish, the Guadalupe
Bass, and a one-page magazine article written by the students comprised of
conservation advice and a fun fishing experience written in first-person narration style.
There was a total of seven entries that included AP, Art II, and students from our
adaptive education unit.

The Alice HS Band Division is currently working on spring concert music for the end of

The Band Division is also preparing those students who qualified for the U.I.L. State
Solo and Ensemble Contest scheduled in late May. This competition is virtual.
Choral Division
The Choral Division is currently preparing music for our virtual spring concert. The
Mixed Choir is also learning music for the Senior Class Baccalaureate service in late
May. The choir is preparing for both a live performance and a virtual performance for
this event.
The Choral Divison is also preparing students with selections for competition at the
U.I.L. State Solo and Ensemble Contest that will take place in late May.
Theater Division
