Family picnic
- Parents should plan to bring picnic blankets and/or chairs, etc. for the picnic. There are a limited number of picnic tables available.
- If parents want lunch from the cafeteria, it will need to be preordered that morning. Simply let your child's teacher know to order an extra lunch for you. Be aware that if you order a lunch that morning, you will be charged even if you do not end up getting it from the kitchen.
- At 11:30am (not before), we will give parents access to the classrooms to pick up their child. Parents will be welcome to go to their child's classroom to get their child for lunch. Please be aware that you will only be able to retrieve your child for lunch. If you are not going to attend the lunch and wish for your child to eat with another family, that must be prearranged with the teacher. Please note that BOTH families must reach out to the homeroom teacher PRIOR to Friday to let the homeroom teacher know that students are eating with another family.
- Once taken from their classroom, students are required to stay with their parents for the duration of the lunch. Students may not run around or play on the playground.
- Our Family Picnic will end promptly at 12:15pm.

Lent
On Fridays during Lent, the Catholic Church asks those between the ages of 18 and 59 to fast from meat. You will notice that we do not offer meat options on the school menu during Lent.
For those of you who attended the Unintended Consequences Seminar back in January, Mrs. Tami Murphy shared their "No Likes for 40 Days Lent Challenge." We encourage you and your child(ren) to join us on this challenge. Check out the flyer below.

raising kids in a digital age isn't easy
Create tech-free zones. Keep family mealtimes, other family and social gatherings, and children's bedrooms screen free. Turn off televisions that you aren't watching, because background TV can get in the way of face-to-face time with kids. Recharge devices overnight—outside your child's bedroom to help him or her avoid the temptation to use them when they should be sleeping. These changes encourage more family time, healthier eating habits, and better sleep.

Catapult Learning
Your school staff and Catapult Learning will be leading a universal mental health screener in your child’s school classroom/virtual platform for the duration of time listed below:
March 1-March 14, 2022
During this time, teachers will be completing a 10-question multiple choice survey that focuses on emotions and behaviors exhibited in the classroom.
The results will be viewed by the Catapult Learning clinician to determine recommendations for a specific group session, individual therapy, or referral for other services.
100% of screening results are confidential to the Catapult Learning clinician and stored in a HIPAA compliant space.
Catapult Learning services are provided to students with parental permission to participate. If you DO NOT wish for your child to participate in this classroom guidance service, please send a notification via e-mail by March 4, 2022, to the e-mail address listed below in order to opt out.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Haas at thaas@stjosephwhschool.org.

scholarship information for 2022-2023
Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA) (Formerly Gardiner or McKay Scholarships) allows parents of students with unique abilities to personalize the education of their children by directing scholarship dollars toward St. Joseph Catholic School. This would include any student with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a qualifying documented disability from a licensed physician. Many diagnoses by a physician qualify, including anaphylaxis, autism, intellectual disability, and other health impairment; i.e. ADD, Asthma, and Type 1 Diabetes. On average, this scholarship is $10,000.
Additionally, all children in a family who have a sibling on the FES-UA scholarship, regardless of income, will qualify for a “Family Empowerment Scholarship for Educational Options” (FES-EO).
Family Empowerment Scholarship for Educational Options (FES-EO) and the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program give parents the ability to choose a school that best meets their children’s needs by providing a scholarship to attend St. Joseph Catholic School. Eligibility is determined by household income. For example, a family of four in the 2021-22 school year could make almost $100,000 annually and qualify. For applications for the 2022-23 school year, we are anticipating a family of four could make almost $112,000 annually and qualify. These numbers are not usually finalized until later in the year. Dependent children of a reservist or an active-duty military member of the United States Armed Forces automatically qualify for this scholarship based on his or her parent’s service to our country, regardless of income. On average, this scholarship is $7,000.
