AR Alpha Delta Kappa Moving Forward
October 2021
From the State President
October is a special month for Alpha Delta Kappa sisters. Our founders have left us a special legacy. Agnes was so special and I am so blessed to have met her—not once but twice! Pretty awesome for a country girl.
We should be very proud of our giving to others through our altruistic projects. What a fantastic total we donated to the international project last summer. We sisters do amazing things.
Our September board meeting was a first for us. We had a “hybrid” meeting with some of us in a conference room and others partipating on ZOOM. As state president it was my first live event!
Please continue to be careful. Wear your masks and get your vaccinations. This virus is serious business and it is not going away in the near future.
Have a wonderful Founders’ Day Month.
Hugs and elbow taps to all my sisters, Kathey

A Message from President Mollie
Lead With Your Heart
Greetings, dear sisters, and Happy Alpha Delta Kappa Month. October is here, along with cooler temperatures; it has been beautiful in California. I hope you are all enjoying this time of year as we celebrate the vision and leadership of Agnes, Marion, Marie and Hattie. They certainly led with their hearts, believing that an organization honoring outstanding women educators and supporting our families and communities was a worthy endeavor. Agnes and company traveled this country and sent emissaries far and wide to spread the vision and the light of Alpha Delta Kappa. Within ten years, 42 S/P/Ns had been chartered. We are now celebrating 74 years of sharing love through our altruistic projects, our International Teacher Education program, the recognition and support of excellent educators, the awarding of scholarships and grants, and our World Understanding projects. I encourage you to gather together, whether in person or virtually, to recognize our Founders and celebrate our sisterhood. We are again facing some uncertainty about the future, I know. We also know we are resilient and the most important action we can take as leaders is to facilitate connections with each other and support our active educators. Active educators throughout our organization are describing more difficult conditions in their schools this year than they faced last year. We must reach out to them and share love and support. Resources for Alpha Delta Kappa Month may be found on our website under Meetings/Chapter Meetings/AΔK Month and Founders’ Day. Also see the history of Alpha Delta Kappa under Documents and Forms/Guiding and General/Historical Background Information. Let's lead with our hearts and Share the Love during Alpha Delta Kappa Month and beyond
Barbara Ann Chapman
June 5, 1943 – August 26, 2021
Barbara Ann Haley Chapman, 78, of Mabelvale, Arkansas, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer. Barbara graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. While a student at the University of Arkansas, Barbara’s brother, George, introduced her to the love of her life, Stanley Chapman. Barbara and Stanley were married on September 1, 1963, in Minden, Louisiana. Barbara devoted her professional life to elementary education and taught in the Pulaski County School District for 25 years. Barbara was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa and was a member of the Alpha Mu Chapter. Chapman was a woman of tremendous grace and humility, who touched so many lives, warmed so many hearts, and was always there for family and friends. We will miss you terribly, Barbara, until we see you again.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.pinecrestfh.com for the Chapman family.

Excellence in Education
Dear Presidents, The Education in Excellence Award presented by Alpha Delta Kappa at our International Convention every two years is the highest award granted to a member. It is valued because we honor the excellent educators that we are! I know IVP Rachel has sent you information about this award through her recent initial newsletters to the South Central Region. I would like for you to take it another step forward by adding the following article to your S/N newsletter this September. Please add the deadline date of November 1, 2021, to your dates to remember within your newsletter. Please be encouraging every chance you have such as at chapter and/or district meetings. The award is a process of nominations that begin with an electronic nomination through the International Website:alphadeltakappa.org.> MEMBERSHIP > Scholarships and Grants > Excellence in Education Please find an article for your newsletter attached to this message. Thank you for your continued encouragement to our South Central Region Alpha Delta Kappa sisters. We were the first region, and we are proud and strong! Faithfully, Paula O'Neill, Chairman 2021-2022 Excellence in Education Award South Central Region
