Parents and staff have provided powerful examples of leadership and patience, and students have demonstrated their great ability to adapt and thrive.

Hot Spot VS. Safer at Home
Like many of you and your friends, I am looking forward to Berkeley County reopening following the impact of Covid-19 on our community. While we may hear that the rest of the state is settling in to Safer-at-Home guidelines, I remind you that Berkeley County continues to be labeled a Covid-19 Hot Spot and Berkeley County Schools will remain compliant to Hot Spot governance while we monitor daily updates and conversations with our local health partners.
The Hot Spot criteria considered by our state and local health officers on a weekly basis are:
· how many people in our county are infected with Covid-19;
· is the number of people dying from Covid-19 increasing?
· how many infected with Covid –19 are coming off isolation?
As a Hot Spot, Berkeley County is declared to follow the emergency 64CSR114 rule placed by Governor Justice of West Virginia. This rule governs social distancing, the number of people permitted in a building based upon the rate of 2 persons per 1000 square feet, and the rule limiting outside gatherings of up to 5 people at a time.
LOOKING & PLANNING FORWARD:
What will Berkeley County look like when we move from Hot Spot to Safer at Home guidelines?
· We will continue to practice social distancing inside and outside.
· We will follow guidelines on the number of people allowed in a building at any given time based on square footage.
· We will follow the number of people permitted at out-side gathering at any time up to 25 people.
I wanted to provide you with this information so you could be aware of the difference between the labels of Hot Spot and Safer at Home. I also want you to know that Berkeley County Schools, working closely with our local and state health partners, continues to monitor Covid-19, and the status of health of our community. As we plan for our upcoming school year, safety, health and well-being will continue to be our priorities. You should know that our decisions will continue to be based upon these priorities for our students, families, staff and community.
