The annual counselor Professional Development Session will focus on helping counselors develop strategies to support the social-emotional growth of all students. This work is supported by the ASCA Mindset Standards, specifically Standard 1: Belief in development of whole self, including a healthy balance of mental, social/emotional, and physical well-being; and Standard 6: Positive attitude toward work and learning. The Keynote presenters will focus on developing strategies related to Trauma Informed Care, Resiliency and Mindfulness.

Inquiry Matters: Teaching Content and Literacy Across the Curriculum

Heidi Mills will share insights and strategies that make a genuine difference when teaching through inquiry. She will demonstrate how K-5 teachers can create cultures of inquiry in their classrooms to help children learn to read and write while using reading and writing as tools for learning through integrated units of study.

Heidi will provide extensive and practical classroom demonstrations of authentic, joyful and rigorous learning via videotapes, student artifacts, and integrated unit planning templates.

Join us at our Leadership Academy this summer! We are pleased to offer 2 full days of sessions designed to support you in recharging, reflecting on, and fine-tuning your approach as a leader.

Guest speakers include: Dr.Luvelle C. Brown, Superintendent of Ithaca City Schools and 2017 New York State School Superintendent of the Year; Dr. Neila Conners, Author and Educational Speaker; and MaryEllen Elia, NYS Commissioner of Education.

K-5 Summer Writing Institute

During this three-day institute, Leah will support teachers in deepening their writing practice by delving into the following questions:

¨ What are the "must-haves" of an effective writing workshop?

¨ How can I leverage the workshop structure as a vehicle for developing independence in writers?

¨ How do I make impactful decisions for teaching inside and outside of the Units of Study Resource?

¨ What are best practices for developing my own unit of study?

Teachers will leave this institute with a deeper understanding of Writing Workshop and will be able to use this understanding (alongside their Teacher's College Units of Study Book) to create joyful and skillful writers.
