Be Kind--Be Respectful--Be Responsible--Be Safe
We are gearing up for a BUSY next month at school. Our SOL tests begin next week. Please see the schedule below and mark your calendars. We will have information coming out soon to Save the Date for 5th grade and KG end of year programs.
Safety is always our priority and something that I talk with staff about often. Last week we had reminders as a staff about protocols related to Secure the Building, Lockdown, and keeping doors secured. I want to remind all parents that when you visit our building, you will be asked to ring the bell and talk with the front office about why you are coming by the school. Please be sure to have your ID. This is the first layer in our safety protocols across PWCS to ensure we check in with visitors before they even enter our doors. In addition to this, please ensure only YOU enter the building when the office buzzes you in. While it's polite to hold the door for others, in this instance, every visitor should buzz separately and wait for the office to speak with them before entering the building.
With nicer weather comes some reminders about after school. Students are required to go straight home from school and check in before going anywhere else (park, playground, friends, etc.) Please talk with your child about this expectation as the school ensures safety until each child is home.

Kindergarten Registration & Screening
Registration
The link to register a kindergarten student is below. It lists everything you will need. Please be prepared. We enjoyed screening so many of our new Cardinals this month! We will set up another screening time for those who register between now and June.
Pictures below show the difference between enrolling a brand new student/family to Montclair and those that have older siblings. The process is different so please take a look.
From Nurse Sutton
Welcome to Montclair Elementary School! I look forward to working with each of you to ensure that your child has a safe and healthy Kindergarten year. The first step to a healthy school year begins today. Thank you for taking the time to complete the entire on-line registration packet. Before your child can start school, proof of immunizations and a current school physical are required by law.
For information on which immunizations your child is required to have please visit The Virginia Department of Health School and Day Care Minimum Immunization Requirements website: https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/content/uploads/sites/11/2021/03/Min_Requirements.pdf
Proof of a physical examination, performed within one year of entering Kindergarten must be provided before August 19, 2022. If you do not have a copy of your child’s physical exam, please visit this link to access The Commonwealth of Virginia School Entrance Health Form. https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/content/uploads/sites/58/2021/03/MCH-213G-032014.pdf
Please take this form to your child’s pediatrician for completion. The first page of this form is to be completed and signed by the parent/guardian. The remainder of the form is to be completed by your child’s pediatrician.
Plan to visit your doctor or nurse practitioner well in advance of the first day of school, early summer is ideal. Your child will not be allowed to attend the first day of school (August 22, 2022) without proof of immunizations and a school physical.
For parents of children with special health needs, a health treatment plan is required. Conditions that require a health treatment plan include, but are not limited to: asthma, diabetes, food or insect allergies, seizures, medication administration or special medical procedures. These plans must be completed by your pediatrician before school begins. Health Treatment plans are available in the school clinic.
Thank you,
Cindi Sutton, RN, BSN, NCSN suttoncr@pwcs.edu

Monty Reminders
Dismissal Reminders - Car Riders and Walkers
As the weather warms up, I hope that most of our walkers will enjoy walking the whole way home. Just a reminder that being a walker should not mean that your child dismisses outside and then you pick them up each day in a car on the side of the building. If that is the case, you will need to be a car rider and join the car rider pick up in the parking lot. It is important that we follow procedures for the safety of all. I'm sure you can imagine what it would be like if everyone just decided to make their own rules for dismissal. Thank you for supporting our routines for safety!
