March is Reading Month
Reading is Golden at Glengary!
A School-wide read along between March 1 and April 5th with the whole school
March is Reading Month!
Dear Glengary Families,
Welcome to March is Reading Month! Today each family will be receiving an envelope that includes two things: a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book and a pack of comprehension questions, vocabulary words, and talking prompts. Please note, these packets with questions will NOT be collected and are NOT assigned work. They are for conversation purposes should you choose to use them. The questions might also be used for Trivia Thursdays at school.
Each student will also be receiving a March is Reading Month calendar. S/he should record all minutes spent reading OUTSIDE of school hours. This can include being read to, reading by themselves, reading with someone, audiobooks, and watching their Glengary Teachers and fabulous adults reading Charlie on our YouTube channel. All assigned reading work that students complete outside of school also will count towards their totals.
To see the teachers/adults of Glengary read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, please search @glengarygators on YouTube and subscribe. You can use the March is Reading Month calendars to see which chapters will drop which days. They drop Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays from March 1-April 5 (with the exception of no new posts over Spring Break).
For every 100 minutes children read, they can show their calendar to their teacher and receive a token to hang up around the school on one of our fabulous boards. They can earn up to 8 tokens worth 800 minutes. Reading logs are due on April 6 and anyone who turns one in will be able to become an Oompa Loompa on our special Oompa Loompa board, regardless of the number of minutes the child reads!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to make this a great March is Reading Month! As a reminder, there was a note that came home a couple of weeks ago asking for a $5 donation. If you have not contributed $5 and are able to send it to your child’s teacher this week, we would really appreciate the donation and support.
If you have any questions you may direct them to Mrs. Dodds sarahdodds@wlcsd.org
Happy Reading!
Read along with staff Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Students can, of course, snuggle and be read to with their new family book. Older students may even read on their own. Any time spent enjoying Charlie (YouTube reading with teachers, being read-to, or reading Charlie on their own) will count to their calendar of minutes reading during March.
Record student's time read in minutes on their their take home calendar
Every minute spent reading counts toward their journey through the Wonka Factory
All minutes students read count toward their total - not just the minutes spent reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. So please, keep those minutes coming in!
Minutes may also be logged into your student's Fund Hub portal to keep track and promote on social media for our Read-a-thon Fundraiser (see more info below).
