Homework got you stumped?
This week PAC had our first meeting of the school year. We are thrilled to have approved Mini Grants for the Middle School including $250 for the 6th Grade Planetarium Show, and $250 for MSMS Honor Roll Celebrations.

NEW - MSSD14 Excused Absence Policy
Dear Families and Students,
The staff in Manitou Springs School District are excited to welcome you to a new school year filled with opportunities to learn and engage!
In the spring of 2023, the Manitou Springs Board of Education passed a new policy regarding excused absences. This policy will change how the district honors parental excusals.
We know that students who attend school do better academically and emotionally, and we will continue to support you in your student’s success. We also want to support our staff in reducing the load that chronic absences add to their plates. Please see your student’s handbook for further information.
Getting into the habit of daily attendance is more important than ever. It helps to:
- Reduce stress!
- Make it easier to connect with friends and teachers.
- Support learning.
Reaching you for support in attendance is more important than ever. It helps to:
- Make sure to call every time your child is absent or tardy.
- Please be sure we have your correct: address, phone number and email.
We are working to make our school environment a place where everyone can be safe, healthy, and learning. We will do our best to listen and partner with you so that our children have a successful year. Do not hesitate to reach out to me with questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Kolleen Johnson

Understanding Fake Online Accounts: Why They Exist and What to Watch Out For
- Why People Do It: Sometimes, people make fake online accounts to keep their real identity a secret and stay safe on the internet. They might want to play games or talk to friends without telling everyone who they are.
- What Can Happen: While hiding your identity can feel like a shield, it can also make some people do bad things, like being mean to others or tricking them. If they use a fake identity to hurt someone, they could get into big trouble.
Tricks and Lies:
- Why People Do It: Bad people might use fake online accounts to trick others. They might pretend to be someone nice, like a friend or someone you like, and then try to steal money or personal information from you.
- What Can Happen: If someone tricks you online, you could lose money, feel really upset, or get into problems. It's important to tell a trusted adult if you think someone is tricking you online.
Being Mean and Causing Problems:
- Why People Do It: Some folks make fake accounts just to be mean to others online. They might write mean comments, spread lies, or try to make people upset.
- What Can Happen: If someone is mean to you online, it can hurt your feelings and make you feel bad. Online platforms can also take away their fake accounts if they break the rules.
In short, people create fake online accounts to hide their identity, trick others, or be mean. But doing these things can lead to problems, like getting in trouble or making people feel bad. It's important to be careful online and talk to a trusted adult if something doesn't seem right.
