Dear Families,


Last week was amazing! We hope you were able to join us for Bring your Parent to PE or Numbers and Nachos! Both of these events were well attended. It's always enjoyable to see families interacting with each other in our building! Thank you for coming!


The JCM Auction continues through Tuesday, and we invite you to check out the many wonderful items which were donated by our community. Please share the link with family and friends! Pick up of items purchased will be Friday evening and Saturday morning at JCM (hours forthcoming).


As we approach the last nine weeks of school, the calendar becomes very full of school and home events! We are providing families a calendar with many of the planned events so you can go ahead and mark your calendars!

Book Fair

We are so excited about our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair! There will be tons of great titles and the convenient e-Wallet is available again this year. The dates for the Book Fair are April 17-April 21. For the first time, the Book Fair will only be here for ONE WEEK!


We will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8-3:30.

On Wednesday, 4/19, we will stay open until 6:30 p.m. for families.

Transportation Update

Thank you to those parents who responded in such a positive manner to the recent information regarding morning and afternoon drop off. We have had many fewer parents driving through the grass areas in the parking lot. Earlier in the week, you may have seen some folks on the property looking at our traffic pattern. The offered some suggestions:

  • Have the drivers of special education vans back into parking spots so that there is not a need to stop morning drop off traffic to allow these vans to back out.
  • Encourage parents to close the space between vehicles on the access road. There are frequently LARGE gaps in the line that could ease the traffic line if parents pulled up. It was observed that cell phone usage is at a high during this time and attention is not fully on the cars in front of drivers.
  • As soon as the first staff person exits the doors at 8:00am, have the first car begin to pull up. Again, it appears parents are on the phone and do not see staff is ready to receive cars.
  • Ensure parents have children ready to exit the car within 10 - 15 seconds (we do a pretty good job at this already).
  • Ensure we have five staff on duty to open car doors.
  • Ask the School Resource Officer to be present on the premises from time to time to ensure safety.

In all, it appears the time we are blocking the main road is from 8 - 8:05 so the more quickly we can get the first cars through, the faster the line will go!


One more reminder, the pick-up line ends at 8:15. Please do not pull into the pick up line after 8:15 and assume that someone is still on duty. At 8:15, parents should drive to the front, park, and walk their child in. Students should not be dropped at the corner of the side walk or at the flag pole. As a reminder, 15 minute parking is only for those parents who are checking in for a short period of time. If you need to be at school longer, you will need to park at the bottom lot.

Community Day April 21

We have begun gearing up for our next big school wide event! Community Day is a function that we began holding annually that students have the opportunity to meet members and businesses that serve our community. Students will be rotating through stations in 30 minute sessions from 8:30am-2:30pm. If you have a business or know of one that we should get in touch with for this special day, please let Brooke Crawford know at bcrawford01@rockingham.k12.va.us.

Attendance Reminder

Please be sure to email jcmesnotes@rockingham.k12.va.us or call the school when your child is absent. When contact is not made with the school the absence is recorded as unexcused. Contact should be made as early as possible the morning of the absence.
