First Day of School, Welcome Back Students!
Welcome Mrs. Chelsea Imbrescia, JCMES Assistant Principal
Dear JCMES Families,
I am beyond excited to begin my new role at JCMES! I can’t wait to get the year started and meet all of the wonderful JCMES students and families!
I am coming to JCMES from Elkton Elementary School where I had the privilege of serving as the administrative intern last year. My year at EES was an incredible experience and I am so grateful for the time I had there. Prior to my time at EES, I spent ten years at Peak View Elementary. During my time at Peak View, I taught kindergarten, second grade, and third grade. I loved every minute of being in the classroom and it set the foundation for who I am as a leader today.
My family is excited to be part of the JCMES community along with me this year! My husband Eric, teaches math courses in the College of Education at JMU. We have two daughters, Lila (11) and Phoebe (3). Lila will be in sixth grade this year at Montevideo Middle School and is excited to start running with the cross country team! Phoebe will start preschool this year at Little Oaks Preschool and can’t wait to meet her teacher and see her classroom!
I am honored for the opportunity to serve you all and the JCMES community! I look forward to meeting all of our families very soon!

JCMES Assistant Principal
From the Principal's Desk
Dear John C. Myers Families,
It is an honor for me to introduce myself as your new principal of John C. Myers. It has brought me great joy over the past five years to serve as assistant principal and I am excited and well prepared by Mrs. Tinnell’s leadership to take on this new role. I’m moving into the new role feeling so thankful that I already know the amazing students, teachers and families with which I will get to spend my days! Truly, JCMES is THE place I want to be. I love this school and community deeply and will do my very best to continue its strong success.
I wanted to provide some information on what is taking place at JCMES this summer as well as what you can expect in terms of communication between now and the start of the new school year.
First, as you know, the Rockingham County Schools student information system is called PowerSchool. This is where the yearly student registrations occur and class information and grades are housed. PowerSchool is turned off around this time each summer and will be back in a few weeks with new information for the 23-24 school year added. Because we are in the in-between period, families of students that will be moving on to JFH next year are still receiving communication from JCM but also our new students (rising PreK, and any new K-5 students) are not receiving this email yet. Therefore, the majority of information will not come until after the rollover for the new year takes place. That way all the right people get the communication and we can make sure all phone numbers, email addresses, etc. match what parents have entered on their new registrations. Parents, this is also a friendly reminder to complete that online registration for next year if you have not already!
By mid-July you will receive more information from me regarding back to school events. I hope to announce the new assistant principal around this time as well! Teachers will make contact with families to welcome them into their classes likely during the last week of July. Rising PreK and new K-5 students will be invited to tour the school the second week of August and finally all students and their families will be invited to attend our Back to School event on Thursday, August 17th. Appointments for school visits will be made on this day by teachers and will be available between 12:30-6:30pm.
Summer school will be taking place at John C. Myers beginning next week. If your child is registered to attend summer school, please watch for separate communication from me within the next day or so that contains your transportation information. During this break from school, if your family has experienced a hardship or event that may be helpful for the school to be aware of, please reach out. Also, if your family is in need of food or has other household needs please contact me or Mrs. Hull, school counselor. School may not be in session but our kids are still our kids and we want to do everything possible to continue to support families. An exciting bit of information for all families for next year, breakfast and lunch will be free for all students at John C. next year through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)!
There are still many fabulous weeks of summer left but I am excited to begin plans for a new school year as well. It is an honor to be a part of a school and community that is supportive of our public schools and education. I do not take that privilege lightly and sincerely thank you.
Please tell your children I said hello and can’t wait to see them out in the community this summer or in August!
