SCELA Middle School Newsletter
Flexibility with Accountability
Dear Families,
It is hard to believe that we are halfway through the second marking period! Time is flying by. We hope you were able to view your child's progress report for the second marking period. If the grade is not satisfactory to you or your child, please reach out to your child's teacher to see what your child needs to do to improve the grade.
There are several tools that are available to assist learning coaches (aka parents/guardians). Hopefully, this newsletter will assist you in how to access those items:
1 - ItsLearning - This is where you will find your child's weekly or unit plans and announcements. It also houses all Zoom links for your child's classes. If a Zoom link isn't working, try clicking in ItsLearning. Make sure your child is putting their name; if they use something like "iphone" or a "asdfj", the a teacher may not let them in because they are not recognizable. We want to keep our students safe in a cyberworld.
2 - Edgenuity's Course Report - This document allows the student and learning coach to see all activities for a marking period. It gives due dates and shows the progress of the student. To access, click in the class on Edgenuity. You then look on the top right hand side and will see a button that says "Course Report." After you click it, it will download for you.
3 - Edgenuity's Attendance Report - It will let you know when your student logged into Edgenuity, how long they were on, how much idle time they had while logged in, and how many activities were completed during that session. This video will give more information.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IN7RckWcIY&feature=youtu.be. The attendance log will show how many activities are completed, not lessons; each lesson consists of 4-6 different activities.
Students should be spending about 4 hours on Edgenuity per day (1 hour per academic class) to remain on pace. Students that are behind will need to spend more time so they can catch up. If your child is behind, a warning symbol will appear at the top of the course (after they click in), letting you know how many activities are "late" and approximately how long it will take to complete them.
Remember - Edgenuity shows your child's progress. PowerSchool shows your child's grade.
We hope to continue to work together to make SCELA an innovative model and learning program in our state and nation but most importantly, a place where your child becomes a lifelong, independent learner who changes the world around him or her.
Anytime you have questions, please email your child's teacher. In the subject line, please put your child's name.
Sincerely,
6-8th Grade Teachers
