SATURDAY SCHOOL
STAR ASSESSMENT
On Thursday, January 28th, all students will take the STAR Assessment. Students will take the assessment with their Advisory class.
Why do we take the STAR Assessment?
- To see what students have already learned—and what they’re ready to learn next.
- To gauge the effectiveness of instruction, so they can make adjustments when necessary.
- To identify students who are struggling and may need extra support.
- To see how students are performing against grade-level standards.
Schedule for Thursday, January 28th
7:45 am-8:00 am-Advisory
8:10 am-9:10 am -Math STAR Assessment (with Advisory)
9:10 am-9:40 am-Break
9:45 am-10:45 am -Reading STAR Assessment (with Advisory)
10:45 am-2:30 pm -Lunch, BCO, and Asynchronous day – Teachers may assign work or use it as a catch-up day for missing assignments/tests/quizzes. Students are to check TEAMS and EMAIL for assignments/work completion.
Parent's/Guardian's role:
- Encourage your child to take their time and do their best.
- Make sure students have a quiet space to take the STAR assessment.
- Please remind your child to keep their camera on during the STAR assessment.
We ask that you avoid helping your child answer test questions: encourage them to select the best choice, to ensure we receive accurate results that can be used to support your child’s learning.

HOMEWOOD PTA COOK’S NIGHT OUT AT PANERA!
It’s a cold January in Chicago….doesn’t a warm sandwich and bowl of soup sound good?? Maybe a hot cup of coffee and a pastry? Macaroni and cheese and a side salad? Take the night off from cooking and enjoy a late lunch or dinner, at Panera!
The fundraiser will be Wednesday, January 27th, from 12-8pm at 820 W 175th St, in Homewood. Orders taken in the café, through the drive-thru, or online for rapid pick-up or delivery, all count. Just be sure to use the promo code on the flyer below!
Homewood PTA appreciates all of your support of these fundraisers. All money raised goes directly back to the schools, for our students.
8th Grade Families!
Welcome to H-F! You are invited to Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School's Virtual Voyage to Excellence Open House, set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28! Through this open house, families and incoming freshmen will be able to explore the academics, activities and athletics offered to our students during their high school career. The program will begin with a welcome video on our Viking Broadcasting website (www.vikingtelevision.com), then you can explore your interests by hearing directly from H-F department chairs, sponsors and coaches. These videos were individually recorded so families can select their specific areas of interest. A comprehensive Voyage to Excellence online book will also be provided for an overview of the school, departments and extracurriculars. Don't miss it!
