Easter Rising Series

We're putting the finishing touches on a series of lectures and film screenings to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising of 1916, the event that led to the Republic of Ireland. More details to follow, but for now mark your calendars.


  • 15 March, Stephen White speaking on Charleston's reaction to the Easter Rising
  • 4 April, in partnership with the Consulate General in Atlanta, Shane Stephens, Irish and Irish American studies brings acclaimed NYU historian, Joseph Lee, "The Easter 1916 Rising in Ireland in Historical Perspective"
  • 17 April, 6pm, in partnership with the James Hoban Society, a screening of the new documentary, 1916 The Irish Rebellion, produced by the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies at the University of Notre Dame
  • late April, book launch for Cara Delay's new book, Women, Reform, and Resistance in Ireland, 1850-1950, published by Palgrave Macmillan. Dr. Delay edited the book and contributed a chapter, and CofC's anthropologist, Moore Quinn contributed a chapter as well
