New School Record by Tanner Spence
Tanner on May 9th at the TEC conference meet did it again by lower his time this time breaking the school record at the same time. With a time of :42.91, Tanner is now the new record holder here at Union City for the 300m Hurdles breaking the record of Alex Shimp who set the record back in 2013 with a time of :43.20
Tanner also excels in the 400m dash with a personal best time of 55.2 and it shouldn't surprise anyone if we don't see his name up on the wall next year for that event.
Tanner has a work ethic that every coach wants to see and that is he wants to get better and is always working to be better than the last race.
Union City hires a new Boys' Basketball Coach
Athletic Director Mike Thornburg stated, “We are fortunate to have a veteran coach take over our program with a commitment to developing the student-athlete both on and off the court. Coach Byrum will hit the ground running starting tonight, and we look forward to him having a long and successful career with the UC Indians.” Thornburg would like to thank the search committee for their work helping with the interview process. Several good candidates were interviewed and the committee was in over-all agreement that Coach Byrum was the top choice to lead the boys' basketball program into the future. Mr. Thornburg also would like to thank the school board and Superintendent Mr. Black for their support.
Coach Byrum had this to say about his coaching "I love coaching the sport but more importantly I love to impact young people’s lives in a positive way. I am excited to be back home".
After graduating from UCCHS, Byrum attended IU East. He has been married for 24 years to wife Bobbie, they currently reside in Muncie, Indiana and works a full time position at Delaware Glass.
