Early Life

Meriwether Lewis was born on August 18, 1774 in Albermarle County near Charlottesville Virginia. According to Meriwether Lewis (book) his family were farmers for a plantation. In 1776 the revolutionary war start so his father went to war. When Lewis was 5 his father pasted away in war. At a young age Lewis had the job to run the plantation. Instead gave it to his uncle to run it for him.

Career

Meriwether Lewis took over the plantation from his uncle. Then gave it to his mom while he was at war at the age of 20. According to Meriwether Lewis (book) William Clark was assigned to be Meriwether Lewis’s captain in the military. President Thomas Jefferson ask Meriwether Lewis to go and discover the new land that was bought. Meriwether Lewis asked William Clark to come along. After they went west Meriwether Lewis was made governor of Louisiana.

Challenges

Accomplishments

According to Meriwether Lewis (book) Meriwether Lewis was a proud man with many accomplishment mostly when he discover the west. He discover new kinds of plants and animal. They meet Indians and Native Americans. They also made peace with the Indians and Native Americans. When he return, President Thomas Jefferson made him governor of Louisiana. Right away he started building forts and homes. When he was in Washington he committed suicide and died. People honor him from his bravery.
