Units of Study

Math: We are beginning our basic multiplication fact fluency practice, as well as learning about the first three properties of multiplication (zero, identity, and commutative). Study those multiplication facts with your child at home! Please note quiz dates in the "important dates to remember" section above. We have been using the iPads quite a bit in class to practice. Below are some of the apps that have been a hit! These are all FREE, so check them out! Also, if you have any great math apps at home that your child loves, please let me know. I love to check out new games!

- AB math

- Llama Drama

- Marble Math lite (multiplication)

- Mathmateer

- Hooda Math

- NCTM Concentration

- NCTM Pick-a-Path

We will be taking fact fluency quizzes starting next week. I will send out a schedule of the quizzes that I have planned out thus far. Look for more info from me in the next few days.

Reading: I am wrapping up beginning of the year Fountas and Pinnell reading assessments. I have been so impressed with all the wonderful reading students have been doing over the past two weeks. I can't wait to share your child's assessment with you at our parent-teacher conference in October!

Writing: We are continuing our personal narrative unit. Students are focusing on small moment stories. They had a blast recording their stories on the iPads and playing them back to create a story on paper. Now we are going to edit and revise our small moment stories as we learn about topics such as writing effective leads, using descriptive language, writing paragraphs, and much more!
