What's New?
Welcome to the last full week of February!
Strep throat and the flu seem to be running rampant at SMMS. Please take care of your families and try to stay well! The teachers are thinking about wearing gas masks. LOL!
9th Grade registration information meetings
Two meetings will be held to discuss 9th grade registration with 8th grade parents. Please try to attend one of the meetings so you are ready to register your child on March 15th. More information about registration appointments will be sent home soon. Meeting dates are Monday, March 7 at 10:00am, or Tuesday, March 8 at 5:30pm. Meetings will last approximately an hour to an hour and a half.

Here is what is happening in our classes!
Dr. Bridwell- Physical Science
After this week, the students should be able to explain the advantages of simple and complex machines both mathematically and verbally. On Monday, we will go over our labs, complete all folder items, and review for the Work & Machines test on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday we will review for the Forces & Motion mastery assessment which will be given on Friday. The folder check on Tuesday is a big one and I am counting on them having all of their work.
Mrs. McKinney- Math
Dr. Siekkinen- Georgia Studies
We started WW II this week. Students in Blocks 2-4 are doing an informational writing assignment for SS/LA. SS will be looking at content while LA looks at the mechanics of writing. Additionally, we will do a compare and contrast of allied and axis soldiers. Both assignments can be found in google classroom. Test on WW II will be Friday (Ch. 23).
Mrs. Richardson- Language Arts
This week in ELA, Blocks 2,4,5 will continue to read To Kill a Mockingbird, and complete activities in class to help with understanding of the text. We will practice finding infinitives and figuring out what their function is in the sentence on Monday. Tuesday will be the quiz. On Wednesday, we will review the 3 types of verbals. Thursday and Friday we will start learning about verb moods. All week, we will continue to work on the argumentative essay about which character shows the most courage. Just a reminder that the Socratic seminar will take place on March 3rd. Students will have a quiz on the suffixes given out on Monday the following Tuesday.
Block 3, We have finished reading The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. This week we will be watching clips of the movie and talking about how the book and movie are similar and different. They will also be continuing to write their informational essay on the concentration camp that they researched. They will have a quiz on infinitives on Tuesday. We will review all three types of verbals on Wednesday and begin learning about verb moods on Thursday. Students will have a quiz on the suffixes given out on Monday the following Tuesday.
