King Ranch in TX

Logan Martinez period-5

How it all got started

Richard King and Mifflin Kenedy both New Yorkers came to Texas in 1850 durring the war with Mexico. They became partners in a steamboat company on the Rio Grande ,and in 1853 King bought Santa Gertrudis ,an old spanish land of 15,000 acres in the southern east coast. Eventually this would become the famous King Ranch.

Problems they faced

Even though cattles spread early ,there was still a lack of them because of theft and drought. The biggest problem was a lack of market. People knew the basics of marketing they were: a product without a market is of little value. In the East and North cattle heads were worth $30-$40 while in the southwest they were worth $4.
