The Senior Statement
February 2019
One month closer to graduation
Things are moving quickly as we enter the month of March. Spring Break is on the horizon and after that we will only have 8 weeks left in the semester. We have had many questions about graduation recently and I do want to confirm with everyone a couple of details:
1. Graduation will take place on Saturday June 8th at 10 am on the football field. If we have weather issues in the morning, we will move the ceremony to 6 pm. If we are unable to have the ceremony outside at 6 pm, the ceremony will move to the varsity fieldhouse at 6 pm. Further information about specific details concerning the ceremony and inclement weather plans will be sent out in early May.
2. Everyone needs to make sure they have ordered their caps and gowns from Herff Jones. (That information is below if you have not yet ordered your caps and gowns).
As always if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me at any time.
Sincerely,
Adam Poliskie

Quarter 3: Finish Strong!
As Quarter 3 of Senior year comes to an end on March 15th, it is imperative that your student is working hard to keep their grades up. If your student needs support in a class, they should contact the teacher to set up a time before or after school for assistance. You can also contact them directly by email and work out a schedule for assistance. Be sure to check Schoology for upcoming homework, quiz, and test information. Check PowerSchool, and if you notice your student has any missing assignments, please contact the teacher to get more information. If you need additional assistance, please contact our Academic Coach, Mr. Calero (ccalero@brownsburg.k12.in.us) or your student’s counselor, Mrs. Frazer – last names A-K (rfrazer@brownsburg.k12.in.us) or Mrs. Mahan – last names L-Z (smahan@brownsburg.k12.in.us)
School Rule Reminders
Attendance: It is essential that you continue to reiterate with your students the importance of attendance for success in this final semester of their senior year. Excessive absences could result in a loss of participation in extra curricular activities and events.
Students also need to make sure to be here on time for school! School starts at 7:50 am and students should plan their mornings accordingly to avoid tardies. Once a student receives 4 or more tardies each quarter they will be subject to progressive discipline for their tardies.
Lanyards: Students are still expected to wear their lanyard and ID cards around their necks at all times when they are in our building. This is an essential piece of our school safety protocols and students who do not have their lanyard and ID around their necks will have the incident logged. On the third occurrence they will receive a written warning and parent/guardian will be notified. On the fourth occurrence the student will be assigned a Detention and consequences escalate with additional occurrences.
Replacement lanyards cost $2 for the lanyard and $3 for the ID. Please have your student see Mrs. Matherly in the Team 2019 office if they need to purchase a lanyard.

We highly encourage seniors to apply for these scholarships as there are several available. The descriptions for all local scholarships are on the guidance website and the electronic applications provide eligibility criteria and what they require for submission. Please consider applying! Please do not wait until the last minute to begin and submit the local scholarships in case you have questions.
Scholarship awards will be presented at Senior Awards Night on May 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Brownsburg High School Varsity Fieldhouse. Seniors will be notified in early May if they are a recipient of a scholarship.
College Visits
Spring break is a good time to get in a visit without missing school. You must sign up for an official college tour at the colleges’ website in advance of your visit. Students may miss up to 2 school days this year for a campus visit. The documentation for this should be submitted prior to missing school for the day or turned in upon your return from the visit. Student attendance will be marked unexcused until we have received the proper documentation of the visit.
AP Classes Information - Mr. Comer (Guidance Director)
Taking the Advanced Placement exams is an important part of all AP courses. Brownsburg High School desires that all students take AP exams for the AP classes that they have taken. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class, saving a significant amount on tuition.
For the 2019 AP exams, students at Brownsburg High School will be registering online. This registration will take a few minutes and can be completed from any computer with internet access. This year each AP exam costs $98.00. Brownsburg High School desires that every student be able to take their AP exams. Students who are receiving free or reduced lunch will receive exam waivers for their AP exams.
All students who are taking exams in Math, Science, and/or English will receive exam waivers from the Indiana Department of Education. The IDOE has committed to covering the costs of these exams for all students grades 9 – 12.
Online Exam registration will begin on Wednesday, Jan 9, 2019 at 6:00 AM and end on Thursday, Feb 21, 2019 at 11:00 PM. In order to register, students should visit www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/150335 to register. To complete registration, students must answer all of the required questions. Registration is not complete until students have printed the pdf of the confirmation page that is provided at the end of registration. We know that parents may desire to register their students for exams. We strongly recommend that parents and students are both present while registering to ensure that the correct exams are ordered.
Brownsburg High School is excited to offer families the convenience of paying exam fees online at the time of registration. Please be sure to have a credit card or debit card available before beginning registration. Paying online is a great way to make sure that payment has been made while avoiding mailing payment.
Here are the important dates for the registration process:
- Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 6:00 AM - Registration Begins
- Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 11:00 PM - Registrations and payments after this date will incur a $25 late fee per exam.
- Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 11:00 PM – Late Registration Ends
- Monday, March 4, 2019 at 11:00 PM - Registrations that have not been paid for will be cancelled and exams will not be ordered.
Please contact Mr. Brett Comer, bcomer@brownsburg.k12.in.us , if you have any questions.
