Building the World We Dream About
The Building the World We Dream About class begins this Thursday, facilitated by Rev Sara, Rev Mary, Tiffany Felch, and Anne Hundley. Class is both in person and on Zoom.
Thursday evenings 6:30-8:30 November 10 - May 18. Building the World We Dream About is a Unitarian Universalist program that seeks to interrupt the workings of racism and transform how people from different racial/ethnic groups understand and relate to one another. The program creates opportunities for participants to practice dreaming our world otherwise, and then commit to new, intentional ways of being. As Unitarian Universalists, we hope developing antiracist, antioppressive, and multicultural habits and skills will lead us to build the multicultural world of beloved community we dream about.
The class has a total of 24 sessions. For those wishing to join for only certain sections of the class, we will ask that you do some “homework” to catch up on some of the earlier class sessions you missed.

Email Phishing and Other ScamsScammers struck again with an email that looked like it came from me. It asked for contact and eventually for you to purchase gift cards. It wasn’t from me! Scams and phishing are common, I’m afraid. There are some things you can do to keep safe. Primary actions are to always question and be skeptical if you are asked to buy anything or share personal or financial information. Always check with someone before you do so. You should also check the email that a request came from. It might look like it’s from someone you know, but if it’s not exactly, delete it. And, if you’re not sure, check with the person. Recently the Washington Post put out a useful guide for avoiding scams. You can find it here. Be careful and be safe. Rev. Mary, Minister@ouuc.org | Book Sale SuccessThank you to everyone who made the return of the in-person Books, Brownies, & Beans such a fun, successful event! Shoppers were delighted by the book selection, the yummy brownies, and the wonderful entertainment. The volunteer crew included experienced BBB team members as well as new people who brought their skills and energy to support our community fundraiser. Special thanks to BBB pros Sally Brennand and Susan Dodson for their focus and dedication, and Sally Alhadeff and Chris Parke for stepping up to co-chair. Pizza Klatch, FORKids Weekend Backpack program, and Thurston Climate Action Team will be sharing the proceeds. The BBB committee will debrief next week, so if you have comments or ideas to share, please contact Sally Alhadeff or Chris Parke. | Your Leadership Development Committee Needs Your Help!Hello from the LDC! You may remember electing new folks to our team last Spring. Our job, among other things, is to identify candidates for the Board of Trustees and the LDC that you will vote on next year. We are gearing up our efforts to discern who among the OUUC membership could serve as effective members of the Board or LDC, and we could use your help. Who do you think could bring the skills and attributes we need to these positions that are so critical to the effective functioning of OUUC? (Could it be you?) We would love to hear your recommendations, and if you have questions about what the members of the Board and LDC do, please let us know. You can find our contact information in the directory on Realm or catch up with us in the Commons after Sunday service. We are: Alice Curtis, Jason Martinelli, Tim Ransom, Pat Sonnenstuhl, and Gary Worthington. |

In the Larger Community
Learn more about the following events and others here.
The Article II Study Commission is excited to share a full draft of Article II for feedback. The Study Commission's outreach team will be hosting Zoom feedback sessions in the first half of November, along with gathering feedback through a forthcoming online form for individual comments. The Study Commission will present its final draft to the Board in January for inclusion on the agenda for General Assembly 2023. It will then be the subject of mini-Assemblies before the initial vote at GA 2023. If it passes that delegate vote by a majority, it will require a 2/3 majority vote at GA 2024 to become the new Article II of the Bylaws.
You are invited to this year’s interfaith celebration of community, “Resetting Our Sacred Table.” Sunday, November 20, 2:00 pm. In-person at Temple Beth Hatfiloh and on Zoom. Learn more: Current Events - Interfaith Works (interfaith-works.org)
