STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Designing a Dream Home with Math
Students in Miss Merryman's pre-algebra class used scale drawings to design their dream home. After making a floor plan, they found the area of each room and picked out flooring to find the total cost of flooring on their home, and then found the price of all appliances on their floor plan.
Exploring Energy
Mrs. Vandenberg's students collected data that demonstrated the use of elastic potential energy and kinetic energy. Students created cotton ball shooters from rubber bands and toilet paper rolls.

Outsiders Day!
Mr. Mosetti and Mrs. Taylor's 7th grade ELA classes dressed up to celebrate finishing S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders and preparing to watch the movie. Each class brought in Outsiders Approved Foods (Only foods referenced in the novel) and dressed as Greasers and Socs to enhance the movie watching experience. Students explored the role that characterization and setting can have in establishing themes in novels. Students found that one of the themes from Robert Frost's poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay" was also present in the novel and many even memorized and recited the poem for extra credit.
Stay Gold Everyone!
Human Body Systems Projects
Advanced Science Silver Team students researched the systems of the human body and designed projects to be presented in class. The projects included beautifully illustrated posters, informative slideshows, interactive review games, clay models, yarn hair, and wearable T-shirt displays!
Fernwood Holiday market 2022
Fernwood's first ever Holiday Market was a HUGE success! Some convocations became business owners and made items to sell like ornaments, snowman soup, sugar scrub, decorated tote bags, mini wreaths, reindeer candy grams, keychains, and much more...all handmade by students and staff! They created a name and advertisements and students sold their items during the market. We had such an amazing turnout that we raised over $2,000 for Student Council and Renaissance, which means all of that money goes directly back to the students! Thank you everyone, and Happy Holidays!

Gingerbread Houses in French
Our Honors French classes worked on their speaking skills, house (and school) vocab, and collaboration skills by designing Gingerbread Houses. In addition to describing their house, the students created simple "stories" to explain any mishaps that might have happened to their houses or to tie in their "theme." Staff came to visit their classes, judge their designs, and hear their stories (in French of course)!

Fernwood Cares Club
The Fernwood Cares Club prepared holiday treats for the staff at its first meeting this week. Students made chocolate covered pretzels and cookies to show appreciation wish everyone a nice winter break!
French Caroling and Fun
On December 15, the High School French students and teachers visited the Honors 7th and 8th classes for a morning of caroling and holiday themed activities.
Ms. Cole led a Kahoot Competition with French holiday trivia. Ms. Miro taught holiday words and did a holiday bingo. Ms. Harris did an activity in which the kids had to talk in French and create a list of similarities between all of them. Mrs. Baird led a game of “Santa’s Laundry” and read the students off a list of the clothes from Quand le Père Noël Vient me Visiter and they had to work together as a team to remember the list, hang the laundry in the correct order, and then read it off to me correctly.
