All School Field Trip & Field Day 2022

For several years, our PTA had sponsored an All School Field Trip! We loaded all students and staff on buses and headed to destinations such as Greenfield Village, The Michigan Science Center, Tollgate Farm and the Detroit Zoo. Of course, as we made our way into the 2019-2020 school year, the closure of school in March derailed any All School Field Trips plans. While we returned to in person learning for the 2020-2021 school year, we were unable to take any field trips due to COVID restrictions that were in place for the health and safety of all.

Likewise, our traditional field day was put on hold for the past two years.

This year, we are excited to do BOTH events....on the same day, Wednesday, May 18! ALL students and staff will travel (via WLCSD buses) to Dodge Park 5 where we will spend the day celebrating! Along with a fun variety of field day events planned by Mrs. Grinnell and Mrs. VanHulle, we will have other fun activities sponsored by our PTA.

While we finalize a few more details, we wanted to share the date as it will take many volunteers/chaperones to help ensure this event is FUN and safe for all. More information coming week!

LUNCH: Students will need a sack lunch on this day. Our food service department is happy to provide a sack lunch which includes:

Premade sandwich -turkey ham with cheese (on a bun)

Baby carrots

Apple slices

Juice

Teachers will take a pre-count for a Food Service provided sack lunch on Tuesday, May 3rd. PLEASE discuss with your student whether they would like to pre order a sack lunch or bring their own from home to allow for the most accurate pre-count possible!

MStep continues...

Our 3rd graders have wrapped up their testing and 4th grade will be done by the end of this week. Our 5th graders will finish their testing next week.

Thank you for continuing to avoid scheduling appointments or vacations during our testing windows. Absent students will be required to take make-up tests on alternate dates, missing classroom instruction. We appreciate your support.

Placement for the 2022-2023 School Year

Placement of children for the next school year is a team process. The classroom teachers, special area teachers, and I meet to consider the best placement for every child. Many aspects of a child’s development – academic, emotional, and social are very carefully considered. Because we view the process as so important, our staff will invest many hours to ensure the very best placement decisions. The staff working with your child has learned a great deal about his or her learning style, strengths, challenges, and opportunities for growth. In addition to individual needs, we also consider the balance of each classroom, so that optimal learning environments are created for all children.

While it is never appropriate to request a specific teacher, if there is important information you wish to convey regarding your child’s learning needs, I welcome you to submit the Google form linked below by tomorrow, Monday, May 2nd.

I understand that this is a sensitive issue. In fairness to all children and staff members, please trust in us to handle placement with the care and sensitivity that is necessary for these important decisions.

Optional COVID testing now available at the ESC

The District is now offering optional COVID testing to our staff, students, and parents. Both Rapid and PCR tests are available. The testing will take place at the Educational Services Center (850 Ladd Road, Building D Walled Lake, MI 48390) on Tuesdays and Fridays from 2-7 p.m.

The COVID testing staff, provided by a third party, will be responsible for letting people in the side door on the south side of the building.

· If you have insurance, your insurance provider will be billed.

· If you do not have insurance, there is a cost of $110.00 for a PCR test and $50.00 for a rapid test - This comes as a result of the Federal Government no longer providing funding for testing.

There will be signage placed both inside and outside of the building. To set up an appointment for testing, please complete this requisition form.
