Big picture

ACADEMICS:

AP TESTING: All AP students need to make sure they have signed into their myap.collegeboard.org account and have enrolled in their AP class sections or exam only sections. Your teacher will give you the join code, so be sure to check with them if needed. For students that do NOT already have a College Board account, you will need to go to College Board to create one. Please make sure you only have ONE account, and you must use your legal name when you register. Starting September 10th, all AP students in yearlong/first semester classes will be able to register for AP exams on the school webstore at https://twhs.conroeisd.net/school/our-campus/school-webstore/. See TWHS website at https://twhs.conroeisd.net/ and click on AP Exam Deadline & Ordering Information for more details about deadlines.

If students have any questions, please contact your AP teacher or Mrs. Spears (wspears@conroeisd.net) in grade level.

PROCTORIO: We are excited to announce that Conroe ISD has invested in a software program called Proctorio, a remote proctoring solution designed to protect the integrity of assessments delivered in Canvas.

TWHS plans to utilize Proctorio for the 2nd Nine Week Marking Period to ensure the integrity of our virtual testing environment. More information specific to Proctorio will be coming soon.

ATTENTION SENIORS WHO SIGNED UP TO TAKE SAT SCHOOL DAY ON OCTOBER 14TH.:

VIRTUAL PLATFORM--If you would like a student guide for the exam, you may access one digitally at https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/pdf/sat-school-day-student-guide.pdf or you can pick up a hard copy at the front of the school Monday-Friday, from 7:30-2:30.

IN-PERSON PLATFORM--You may pick up a student guide from the table in the cafeteria or print one from the website https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/pdf/sat-school-day-student-guide.pdf. Guides are only for seniors who are taking the SAT School Day exam on October 14th.

PSAT: PSAT and SAT School Day Testing on October 14, 2020 All students, regardless of platform choice, will have the opportunity to come to school to take the PSAT or SAT School Day exam on Oct. 14. These two exams will be conducted in a regular school day testing environment, similar to those that have been held at TWHS in the past. For the protection of our students and staff, the following criteria must be met before a student will be allowed on campus:

1. Students MUST wear a mask

2. Students should screen themselves upon entering the building. Are you experiencing:

a. a temperature at or above 100.0 F. or any of the following symptoms that are not normal for you?

b. loss of taste or smell; sore throat; fatigue?

c. chills or shaking with chills; congestion or runny nose; significant muscle pain or body aches?

d. have a new uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing or for individuals with a chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in your cough from baseline?

e. diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain; new onset of severe headache?

f. known close contact with a person who is lab confirmed to have COVID-19 in the previous 14 days?

3. Are you waiting on Covid test results?

Please do not come to school if you are exhibiting signs of Covid, will not wear a mask, and/or are waiting for Covid test results.

Note About SAT School Day: The 2020 SAT School day will be administered only to seniors who signed up by September 18, 2020 to test and is in place to assist seniors who missed taking the SAT last spring due to Covid. Although some colleges are not requiring SAT scores for possible admittance, a high score can still assist in a college’s holistic review and is often reviewed for scholarships. If you did not sign up in time, you can still register to take the SAT outside of the regular school day. Check collegeboard.org for test and registration dates and locations.

Parents: Please review each platform scenarios below to determine which one pertains to your child and follow the directions listed.

SAT School Day-Seniors-Virtual Platform

1. Determine if you plan to come to campus for the test. If so, please arrive between 6:45 am and 7:10 am. Only remote students with an issued parking spot can park on campus. Others must be dropped off and picked up at the front of the school.

2. Students must be in their seat and ready to test by 7:20 am. A late arrival could result in not being tested.

3. Locate the room posters in the hallway and report to the correct testing location.

4. Follow directions given by your proctor. You will be asked to fill out demographic information on the front of your answer sheet. Be sure to use the same information associated with your current Collegeboard account to ensure there is no delay in receiving your test scores.

5. All electronics will need to be placed in a back pack or purse and then placed at the front of the room.

6. When testing is complete, students should make their way immediately to front of school to be picked up or to their car.

7. Approximate test time: 7:20-11:50

8. Students with testing accommodations will be emailed through parent access for their testing location.

9. Testing rules and regulations can be found at collegeboard.org. Online tutoring help can be found at khanacademy.org

SAT School Day-Face to Face Platform

1. Arrive at school between 6:45 am and 7:10 am.

3. Students must be in their seat and ready to test by 7:20. A late arrival could result in not being tested.

4. Follow the directions of your proctor.

5. All electronics will need to be placed in a back pack or purse and then placed at the front of the room.

6. Students will complete a pre-administration session on Oct 7th during a designated advisory session starting at 7:26 to fill out demographic info. This will allow a faster start time on test day. Students should try to be present for this as it will allow a smoother testing experience. Students who miss this session will have to fill out their info during break or after the test.

7. Approximate test time: 7:20-11:15

8. Students with accommodations will be sent a testing location notice during the school day.

9. Testing rules and regulations can be found at collegeboard.org. Online tutoring help can be found at khanacademy.org

PSAT-Sophomores and Juniors-Virtual Platform

1. The PSAT exam is a practice only for sophomores. Although it can provide college readiness data, it has no bearing on scholarship applications. Other ways to practice include reviews found at khanacademy.org and a practice test found inside the free student guide that can be picked up in the cafeteria or found digitally at collegeboard.org.

2. For juniors, PSAT scores are reviewed by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Scores from around the nation are considered and high performing juniors can earn money for college. Information about this can be found in the free student guide that can be picked up in the cafeteria or found digitally at collegeboard.org.

3. After considering points 1 & 2, determine if you plan to come to campus for the test. If so, arrive between 6:45 am and 7:10 am. Only remote students with an issued parking spot can park on campus. Others must be dropped off and picked up at the front of the school.

4. Juniors who CANNOT come to school to test and believe their score could earn national merit scholarships should contact their counselor.

5. Students must be in their seat and ready to test by 7:20. A late arrival could result in not being tested.

6. Locate room posters in the hall way and report to the correct testing location.

7. Follow the directions given by your proctor.

8. All electronics will need to be placed in a back pack or purse and then placed at the front of the room.

9. Virtual students will be released five minutes before all other testers and should make their way immediately to the front of school to be picked up or to their car.

10. Most students will have an answer sheet that is pre-coded. If not, the student can fill in the required demographic info during breaks or after the test. If you are filling in demographic info, it is important to give accurate information, especially for sophomores, as you are establishing an account with Collegeboard that you will use during your high school years.

11. Approximate test time: 7:20-11:15

12. Students with testing accommodations will be emailed their testing location to the email listed in parent access.

13. Testing rules and regulations can be found at collegeboard.org. Online tutoring help can be found at khanacademy.org

STUDENT COUNCIL: Student Council is off to a great start this school year! We started the month of September by writing virtual thank you cards to essential workers to let them know how much we appreciate them for all of their hard work during this time. The class of 2021 students started their senior year by making memories decorating their cars together in the TWHS parking lot and enjoyed ice cream treats. In order to help protect our Earth, our members picked up trash to help clean up our community. Our students created a “Thank You” video for teachers and administration in order to show our appreciation for making the students' time online as easy as possible before coming back in person. To welcome back our students, we celebrated by dressing up in our highlander attire, wearing purple for suicide awareness, our favorite sports team jerseys, and Hawaiian shirts to end the week!

We will have our next Student Council meeting of the year on October 5 at 6pm! We are live streaming our meeting on Instagram as well. Contact Mrs. Gartner for more information about joining Student Council this school year!
