March Points of Pride from Superintendent Bradley
National School Breakfast Week
The week of March 2, 2020 was National School Breakfast Week. This annual celebration raises awareness and highlights the significant impact school breakfast has on a student's ability to succeed. According to No Kid Hungry and Hunger Solutions New York,
- 1 in 6 children in New York State struggle with hunger
- 1 in 13 low-income students eat free or reduced price school breakfast in New York State
- 3 out of 4 teachers say they see kids who are regularly coming to school hungry
- 92% of teachers who say they are concerned about how hunger impacts their students' ability to succeed
The Lockport City School District offers breakfast to all students at no charge through the Community Eligibility Provision program. The breakfast program is provided through Aramark Food Services and features hot breakfast sandwiches, cereal, fresh fruit, freshly baked waffles, milk, and juice.
