Principal's Message
October 4, 2019
Good evening Willink Families,
This week found Willink staff and students keeping kindness at the center of words and actions and the PINK theme was great to see on display each day. I want to thank Mrs. Hofstetter and our entire PBIS committee for your efforts in helping us all be mindful of how important small acts of kindness can be.
I’d also like to thank our PTSA and Listening Post volunteers who kicked off a new year with a new theme by bringing in board games for students to enjoy during lunches on Wednesday. As we help students (and ourselves) balance screen time within our daily routines, a day of students putting away their chromebooks and challenging each other and some teachers to checkers, jenga, and other classic games was a welcome change. While we look forward to next month’s game day, we will continue to have “Tech Free Tuesdays and Thursdays” in lunches to help students find their balance.
As we continue with Hispanic Heritage Month, please take a few moments to scroll down and see several other cultural activities coming our way. These include a celebration of German language and culture as well as an event here at Willink on November 2nd - hosted by the F.I.R.E. (Families Igniting Racial Equity) Hispanic Heritage and Cultural Committee.
I’d also love to see you at coffee with the principal in the Willink Cafetorium from 7:30-8:30am on Wednesday, 10/9. Topics to include feedback on the new start time as well as a discussion on vaping/ecigarettes.
Take care,
Brian Powers

Rochester Octoberschulfest
Come join the fun of the Rochester Oktoberschulfest (October School Festival)! Enrollment is open to any student, grades 6-8, who would like to participate in this fun, interactive, German cultural immersion day. Celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall!
Join us making “Spaghetti” ice cream sundaes, dancing traditional folk dances, voting in our East vs West German Idol session, examining life on both sides of the wall, decorating a slogan for a button, and starring in an escape the Berlin Wall production! You’ll also get to eat authentic, delicious German wurst, sauerkraut, potato salad and yummy desserts during our lunch break.
Leave that Saturday afternoon with a souvenir T-shirt, prizes, knowing a little more about the German history, language and culture, and meeting other kids from around Rochester that are also interested in spending a fun Saturday with us!
Don’t delay! The deadline is next Thursday, October 10, 2019. Registration is limited to the first 200 6th – 8th graders to register! Registration forms and information can be found in the library or from German Teacher, Frau Brucker, in room C112.
